Jenna Fischer's Hollywood journey began at the age of 22 when she moved to Los Angeles from her hometown of St. Louis. With a theater degree in hand, she was determined, she was confident, she was ready to work hard. So, what could go wrong?

Uh, basically everything. The path to being a professional actor was so much more vast and competitive than she'd imagined. It would be eight long years before she landed her iconic role on The Office, nearly a decade of frustration, struggle, rejection and doubt.

If only she'd had a handbook for the aspiring actor. Or, better yet, someone to show her the way an established actor who could educate her about the business, manage her expectations, and reassure her in those moments of despair.

Jenna wants to be that person for you.

With amusing candor and wit, Fischer spells out the nuts and bolts of getting established in the profession, based on her own memorable and hilarious experiences. She tells you how to get the right headshot, what to look for in representation, and the importance of joining forces with other like-minded artists and creating your own work invaluable advice personally acquired from her many years of struggle. She provides helpful hints on how to be gutsy and take risks, the tricks to good auditioning and callbacks, and how not to fall for certain scams (auditions in a guy's apartment are probably not legit or at least not for the kind of part you're looking for!).

Her inspiring, helpful guidance feels like a trusted friend who's made the journey, and has now returned to walk beside you, pointing out the pitfalls as you blaze your own path towards the life of a professional actor.

Want to be a working actor and wondering how to make it happen? You’d be a fool not to read this book! It is a smart and practical handbook on the real journey of an working actor. It’s like grabbing a glass of wine, settling into the couch and picking the brain of a dear friend on how to begin the journey. And what to do (and avoid!) along the way. The book truly feels as though she is giving advice from the heart so that you can be healthy and succeed in being an artist. Her insights and practical advice are so valuable to anyone starting out in the business or anyone looking to refocus their efforts. (Or simply anyone who likes an interesting insight into another world.) Well done, Jenna Fischer! Thank you for the excellent work!

I rarely do books on tape but as a actor driving six hours to a gig in Atlanta I needed help feeling the void. OMG! In her own words made me acknowledge every word as if she were actually a friend sitting next to me immersed in conversation that actually got me and me her. We laughed, we cried, we related to similar situations, etc. However, I realized from the beginner to the most seasoned actor this was actually a template of the actor’s experience from every aspect. A blueprint of not only behind the scenes the proper etiquette, business, but emotionally what an actor feels and how to deal with it. No BS here. Just the raw facts of how too’s of living your dream that yes, sometimes can feel like your own worst nightmare. Simply put, ‘paying your dues’. After all, as actors, we are a family and everyone on the outside just don’t get it. But she gets it and you will too! A must read but personally listen to her on tape, (dated term) device!

I really l liked this book. Her advice and insight I found not only good, but also very motivating. I liked her stories, how she uses her and her friends stories to keep the book readable (listenable). The fact that she narrated her own book gives the audio book the voice & feel that Jenna intended. Someone personal tips and advice, someone who genuinely wants to help other artists.
