Unabridged Audiobook
An absolute masterpiece! The imagery is breathtakingly poetic. The metaphorical soliloquies take you to the heart and soul of human torment, leaving you with an understanding of the ultimate cost of war.
As you would expect, it's sad and depressing, but very well written and narrated. This should be required reading for all politicians!

Loved this book
It just shows how terrible war can be
excellent
An absolute classic. The opening chapter packs one of the biggest punches of any book I've ever read.
If I never read or listen to another's account of their time in war. This will always be at the forefront of my mind. I'm rarely with out words but, wow is all I had at the end of this. The narrator is nothing less of superb. The bond these men shared during the most atrocious hell - the high majority of us will NEVER comprehend. Adhering to duty but questioning it when you look into the faces of whom you've been told is "our enemy". The human you see as they lay dying in front of you. The desperation and gratitude from them when they gladly accept your scraps. I'm American and not a soldier, however I'm sure this story can be told and related to by any soldier who served during their countries war. Duty doesn't equal agreement. I salute you, my fellow human.
Obviously I saw the trailers and ads for the movie, so in this book showed up in the list of free books that I could listen to, I gave it a try. It is quite a different book. It tells you at the beginning that it is not a story, and it is not. It reads like excerpts from a personal journal or diary of a private in the German army during World War 1. I quite enjoyed the book. I found the descriptions compelling and the prose well constructed. I think that it does a good job of describing the joys, sorrows, fears, and hopes of the common soldier.
Sad and a bit gruesome.
Very powerful story especially because it is from the Germans point of view
A century on, this semi-autobiographical novel stands as one of the defining accounts of war. Narrated with deserved excellence.
Great narration of the original anti-war novel. By focusing on the individual experiences, struggle for survival, and psychological trauma of a soldier and a few of his comrades, the book shows that the reality of war for its victims is completely dissociated from the political and military factors that created their situation in the first place. While the novel plays in the trenches of WWI, the same thing is going on right now in Ukraine...
Book is a classic, it captures the brutality of war and reminds us that war is hell. Narration fit the book perfectly.
beautifully written! I'm and not much for this genre but this book always gets me.
Far be it for me to stand in review of this classic except to say that the messages of youthful folly, loss of innocence, and futility of war woven into a haunting narrative that was on every reading list I ever had beginning in the ninth grade on...and no wonder. Narrator mixed forlorn and hopeful tones to create an atmosphere of conflicted emotions exacerbated by the stark contrast of the home front on leave and brutality in the trenches at the front.
Sound is too low, I can't hear what he's saying.
