Unabridged Audiobook
Really cool world building with a revolutionary undercurrent. Shriek is genuinely entertaining as an audiobook with its back-and-forth between the “biography”’s subject and author. The trilogy starts with kind of a Poe-like gothic horror, progresses to kind of an absurdist commentary on academia, similar to House of Leaves, and cautions us all to think about the lasting impact we have on our environment through commerce and warfare, wrapping the familiar in the bizarre and alien. Unique and addictive fiction that makes it hard to look at mushrooms the same way.
