Really enjoyed the book!! Didn’t want it to end.
I loved this book. I really didn’t have knowledge of the Jefferson family. While I love history, I never focus on the family of our founding fathers. This book was a great insight to the Jefferson family. If anyone is looking for a little gem of a book, listen!
This is a fabulous recounting of the history of a founding father/daughter & the conditions they endured.
By the end listening to the Randolph conversations was draining. Thomas' vitriol was acrid. This book left me with a variety of unanswered questions, but being it's focus was Martha, it's understandable not as much resolution was given to the hemings and the fullness of other characters. Interesting look into history all the same.
Fascinating story which has prompted me to research the "historic" from the "fiction". I'm hoping my research shows that Jefferson's daughters' adult life was much different that the brutality she experiences in the novel. Sally Hemmings plays an intricate role in the novel, as she indeed did in Jefferson's household and his life. Francesca

Excellent book! Thoroughly enjoyed becoming acquainted with the Thomas Jefferson family through this fascinating account of their lives. Reader was excellent!
Lots of history about a one of our founding fathers and his wonderful daughters. The story was very inserting to listen to. Just enjoyed it.

This book was fantastic! We discussed it extensively in our book club and we all learned a lot about that time period. I enjoyed the narrator's voice changes as well.
I totally enjoyed. The author took her time to describe in detail without rushing through or leaving you with questions. She covered many aspects of life during the period in an interesting way, without all the brash language. Excellent. The southern accent of the narrator, I thought contributed wisely to the book.
I really loved this book. If you like historical fiction you will love this. It's very well written and smooth. The narration takes a few chapters to get used too but I ended up looking forward to hearing her voice.
I very much enjoyed this novel with all its historical substance. I do agree with another reviewer though that the narrator's choice of accent, sounding like Olivia de Havilland in Gone With The Wind but with very little emotional variation, was somewhat annoying. Still a good audiobook but could be better.
Wow, just wow! I picked the book because of my love of historical fiction. I didn't listen to it right away and started it, listening sporadically. I was afraid My pick was more of a dryer biographical genre. I lived In the book, taking time to look up images of characters on the net. Characterization was stunning; the images matching the personality described.
I love historical fiction. This book is fascinating, but I found I was put off my the narrator speaking is a southern-ish falsetto. It was irritating and made the richness of the novel feel contrived. You may want to find away to listen to a sample before purchasing or even just go with print for this one.
Absolutely loved this book! The story is so well written that I did not want it to end. I was surprised at how much I learned about President Jefferson and our country while being completely absorbed in hearing about his daughter's life. The narrator's soothing voice captured the characters perfectly.
