Anthem

She's not very good. I couldn't take any more. I quit after 15 minutes.

This woman is horrid. Incessant pauses before 'big' words, bad pacing, aimless stumbles, muffling microphone noises. Ten minutes was all I could handle.

terrible reading. I'm looking for this from another narrator

Interesting book. Narrator was bad, but didn't ruin the book for me.

The ego-cult of the ending is sickening, sad and philosophically contradictive to me. It has the oppositionen effect on me than seems to be the authors intention... i rather feel disgust of individualisms result and the urge of caring about others.

I think the story would be good but the narrator is annoying. Keeps clearing her throat.

Impossible to listen to...gave up. I'll just read it on my own.

The narration was hard to get past. I struggled with how poorly it was done. I am rarely a negative person and normally don’t even say anything but this was terrible.

It was ok

This book is awful. The narrator is also awful, choppy and bizarrely unequal in recording volume, but the book is awful on its merit. It's as if Rand read Yevgeny Zamyatin's "We" and thought, "What if I take the basic premise but dispense with all of the context that makes it work and seem reasonable, so I can pawn off a simplistic narrative on egotism as a religious text and cast it in the shape of a story?" Nothing about this story follows. The protagonist is born into an absolutist conforming collective with which he instantly diverges yet betrays no indication for years, all with no catalyst. His future mate is the only one to identify with his yearning, purely by coincidence; she sees appeal in his "unconquered" spirit even though the idea of collectivism being conquest is alien to them, leaves her oppressive society with no trouble on a whim to follow him, and then utterly subordinates herself to him for no discernable reason. The writing is dreary and repetitive, the morality tale silly and beyond credulity, and the protagonist's plan delusional. This is the first of Rand's works I have read. I will read others to see whether this is an outlier, but consider yourself warned: "Anthem" is AWFUL. Do yourself the favor of reading "We" first, so you can see the clear parallels and recognize the gross deficiencies.

There is a reason this book crosses my path every now and again. Loved the parallels and irony and the ambiance. The scene setting is believable and I immerse myself every time I read it.

A high brow version of Plant of the Apes.

Couldn’t finish this. The narrator wasn’t doing it for me. Too close to mic.

Very similar story to The “Planet of the Apes” storyline. I appreciate the idea of “I”, but also understand we are all part of a bigger picture. The Bible says God bless those who help themselves. It also say love thy neighbor. We are instructed to fen for our self but make provisions for the poor and needy. It’s a fine balance of I and we that works. It can never just be one way or the other and work for the good of mankind.

Book ruined by annoying narration . Hated the chapter interruptions with who had recorded it ...no point and disruptive. Don’t bother.

It’s a great book

The book was great and I highly recommend it! The narrator was fine, but throughout the narration were slight pauses (perhaps from turning pages or losing their place) that disrupted the flow of the story. I also found it distracting to have the book and recording company reiterated at the beginning of every single chapter. Once again, I find this disrupts the flow of the story.

No! Odd story and very poor natration

It wasn't as good as I expected but I liked it anyway. Unlike the other reviews, I found the reader fine, good in fact. She has a pleasant voice, even pacing, and subtly expressive. People are mean.

The narration is sub-standard, recorded with inadequate equipment which lets background noise in, it also captures the narrators breathing pauses and other vexing sounds.

Great story by a fantastic author, I thought it as read quite slowly but I still really enjoyed it.

Narration was great. The is story dystopian Marxist future. Not bad for a short read

I love Ayn Rand. Her stories are relevant to today's society and the themes can relate on personal levels. However, if you want to read or listen to her stories, find a different narrator. Unfortunately, I could only listen to this narrator's attempt for less than 30 minutes. The breaths, swallows, gulps, and pauses were cringy to listen to, and it was tough to follow the story. I feel as if the recording equipment she was using to narrate was too sensitive, or the editing involved to clear out a typical human body's noises was not done at all. I ended up finding a free PDF version of the story online to read for a couple hours before I went to bed one night. Great story though. Loved the characters, emotions evoked from reading and putting myself through the characters, and the story itself. Lots of themes relevant to our own society. If you like Ayn Rand, listen to this, and 'Atlas Shrugged'. But find a better narrator.

I like the story it's a little dry, but good. The reader isn't to bad I was able to lose my self in the story. The problem with this recording is volume chapter 1 is loud 2 is low, and so on. that's my only complaint.

Anthem is a great book. It is much better than atlas shugged, Which is a ripoff of Taylor Caldwell the Devils Disciple. It is an original take on communism. It approaches prose poetry, which was and still is approaching extinction. Reading or listening to personal pronouns in the plural is maddening, but genius. The short comings of the narrator result from the book , not the narrator. It is a hard book to read, much less read aloud.

I've read this book several times and was really looking forward to listening to it.. That would be a mistake... I could listen to no more than 5-10 mins... Painful to listen to, really painful. Great book.
