Summary
The first novel in Jan Karon’s bestselling and beloved Mitford series--now available in a new 20th Anniversary Edition, including an introductory letter by the author

It's easy to feel at home in Mitford, North Carolina. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are friendly. Yet, Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's sixty years old. Suddenly, Father Tim gets more than he bargained for. And readers get a rich comedy about ordinary people and their ordinary lives.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening this time instead of reading. Jan Karon is a wonderful, witty writer. I found myself laughing out loud at the antics of Barnabas and Father Tim. father Tim's quick wit also sent me chuckling. I can picture in my mind the town, the streets and buildings, but mostly the characters. The narrator does an excellent job changing voices. My favorite voice is Emma. I think she really would sound like that if she were a real person. Download and enter the lives of those who call Mitford home.

Charming, intriguing, humorous characters, and well done plots, yes plural. I hated to see the book come to an end. I have read this book 2 times and this is the first time I’ve listen to it.

I truly enjoyed this book. It is slower paced but in the best way. I found myself thinking of the characters as friends and laughed and cried with them. The narration is wonderful. The message is timeless.
