Summary
Jack Mullen is in law school in New York City when the news comes that his brother, Peter, has drowned in the ocean off East Hampton. Jack knows his brother practically grew up in the water, and that this couldn't be an accident. Someone must have wanted his brother dead. But the police say otherwise. As Jack tries to uncover details of his brother's last night, he confronts a maddening barricade of lawyers, police, and paid protectors who separate the wealthy summer residents from local workers like Peter. Motivated by a hundred forms of grief, Jack rallies his hometown friends to help him find the truth of Peter's death - no matter how rich or corrupt the people who stand in their way.Jack's relentless crusade puts him into a head-on collision with one of the most powerful and ruthless men in New York, a man who wipes out resistance with a snap of his fingers. As it unfolds that his brother was involved with some of the richest women and men in America - in ways Jack never imagined - his dream of justice fades. Only if he can somehow beat the rich at their own game will he be able to avenge his brother.

The plot kept my interest. But I feel that is mostly due to the superb narration. I didn't find the writing grating. But it also was not clever. This book does move along quickly and has enough twists and turns to keep you interested. Characters are believable and one doesn't roll their eyes at the dialog. But this does not pertain to the ending. It was as disappointing as Bobby Ewing stepping out of the shower--with the "it was all a dream" ending. This is definitely light reading. I am glad I listened to it instead of reading it. It did help the miles pass quickly. Had I read it, I would've felt guilty to give any of my reading hours to this goofy book. I just wanted to try Patterson and see what all the fuss is about. I still don't see what all the fuss is about.

wow took more than have the short book to pick up. I thought it's was never going to have some point and it did end well. I have been reading Patterson for a long time wish the Narrator had some concern in his voice like he finally did in the end.

It was a good listen as the reader was very good . However the plot was very silly and the ending just jumped the shark!! But for a long car ride it passed the time.

This was also a very good book. I couldn't understand why she was killing the men she loved. I was so afraid he was done for at the end, but luckily things turned!

This is not one of his best. You may hang on for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is GREAT narration, but this is not typically good patterson. Almost like he was writing just to get to a deadline and when finished, tied up a BAD ending.

I like James Patterson, but this book just didn't make it. Narration was good, but the story wasn't engaging to me and the ending was just plain dumb.

This was an excellent book. I had to listen to all of the discs at one stretch. It starts out interesting and gets addictive as it goes. The characters in this book are busy and completely not who you would imagine them to be.

This is my first James Patterson novel. I enjoyed the book, even though it was a bit far fetched. It moves quickly and the characters are interesting. My only other comment is that the author has an irritating habit of changing chapters three and four times in the middle of a scene. This book isn't that long and it contains about 115 chapters. You would think he was somehow paid by the number of chapters he cranked out.

The Beach House started out a little slow but once I started listening I couldn't stop. It has amazing twist and turns that you don't expect. I would highly recommend this book.

I felt at the beginning it was somewhat hard to keep up with the characters because there was so many introduced, but as it went on I was able to keep up with them. Overall the book was really good and interesting. James Patterson is wonderful!

Assuming that you already enjoy the murder mystery genre, the 1st 5 discs will easily keep you sitting in your car even after you have already reached your destination wanting to listen to just a little bit more, not terribly deep just nicely written and very well narrated. Sadly the ending is a little disapointing but not terrible. I believe this particular book is probably a better listen than read and i have been reccomending it heartily.

This is my first book by James Patterson, and I can see why he has a following, but its just not my style, reminded me too much of a saucy soap opera.

WOW!! The reader was awesome. A most wonderful listen. Will order more Patterson novels after this one.

This book has made me a Patterson fan. His story telling never lags. The reader was wonderful -- believable without being overly dramatic. I found myself thinking of the characters between listens, a sure sign that Patterson had created *real* people. Loved it.

This is a good listen. I believe I had read it before, but forgot, so I found myself knowing what was going to happen throughout the book. The story is a little "out there" but again, it's fiction.

Another excellent work from James Patterson. Kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Some parts are very racy, probably not suitable for children. Highly recommended.

This was typical James Patterson; face-paced, somewhat unrealistic and at the same time very entertaining. It moved very quickly with thin plot which you could tell the ending by disc 3.

Clever story of a brother trying to bring to justice, his younger brothers murderer. He takes on the wealthiest and most powerful in New York in the process. Well done.

Having listened to over 300 books you could say that I am a bit of an expert. The reader did an excellent job of using different voices, therefore keeping it interesting. The story was sad at times but the author kept focus and did not run off on bunny trails giving unnecessary information. The ending was a real surprise which always makes for a good read, or listen in this case. I recommend this book on tape.

The authors set up an interesting mystery, but how they handled the ending was so implausible, it really became incredible.

Perhaps it's just that I dont enjoy this sort of book but I could not get into this book. I found it hard to follow and not suspenful at all. There was also a relationship between the main character and a love interest that deserved more developement but left out.

From the very first few seconds, I was hooked. Not only is the storyline captivating, but the writing is wonderful and the narracter is perfectly casted! You can fall in love with the entire Mullen family and the entire local community of Montauk. This is a great story about the little guy getting justice through unique and interesting channels! You'll be rooting for the characters until the very end. I strongly recommend this for fans of the writers as well as anyone looking for a highly entertaining diversion.

I can't imagine how it's received 4 stars. The story is completely implausible and predictable. Could not finish it.

James Patterson has done it again. Beach House was a suspenseful and exhilerating read from beginning to end. Jack Mullen made a great hero and his sassy and spirited grandfather was also an interesting character I was able to identify with. It was nice that the love story here didn't overpower the plot line. Well done as always Mr. Patterson! - An Avid Fan!

Beach House was a pretty good listen. I was a little worried at first because I felt the story developed rather slowly. I also found my mind drifting at first as well. But eventually, the story really did pick up and I was more and more hooked. I liked the second half of the book much better than the first half. It's worth your time, but I wouldn't put it at the top of the list. This was my first James Patterson book...I may or may not rent him again.

This was an OK book; I didn't feel it was one of f James Patterson's best. However, it did keep you intrigued enough to want to finish it. I really didn't the get the connection to "The Beach House", but then maybe I feel asleep when this came into play.

A fresh approach to typical James Patterson topics. Ironically, the book had me laughing, more than sitting at the edge of my seat. The narrator was perfect for this book, and contributed greatly to my enjoyment factor. Overall, while a bit puerile it was still fun to tread.

I love Patterson books. This book stood up to the author's reputation in my mind. It was a very good read. It made you feel for the good guys. It also showed what some people can get away with if you have a little money behind your name. I recommend this book if you like Patterson.

Fast paced - very short chapters. It was fun to listen to but I have two problems. First the ending was far-fetched and too difficult to believe. Second, the romance between two of the main characters is just thrown in at the last minute - almost like an afterthought. The dialog during this scene was nauseating.

I say "great for a long trip" because you never want to get out of the car and turn it off. I finished the first 3 discs and couldn't wait for the next three to come! The narrator is really good and the story is great. I like it much better than his other "serial killer" books which tended to get a little gruesome.

This is a gripping story of lust gone mad. Are there really people like this or is this type of story entirely invented? No one knows the kid is into it? With the neighbors? And the friend takes photos and documents it all? Oh wait, I'd rather not know!
