Summary
FROM THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION AND BOOK LOVERS!

A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.

Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast.

They’re polar opposites.

In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.

Until, one hazy evening, one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She’ll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he’ll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.

I have enjoyed all of Emily Henry's books, I love that she has the same narrator on all of them. The narrator makes the book! Touching storyline with humor.

Just didn’t really get into this one.

The Story was okay. The narrator gave the main character a Samantha voice - like sex in the city. And maybe that’s revivals accurate for the character but i didn’t love it.

This book was not as light as I would have expected from a book called “Beach Read”, but the characters and writing were good.

The book had a good ending but the middle was a little slow.

I did enjoy listening to this book. Julia Whelan has the best voice for women's fiction! I listen to her any time I can.. This is my second Emily Henry book and while I liked it, I wasn't in love with the Characters. I guess the point was that the protagonists be truly faulted people as all people are, but it seemed like the author made more of a point to fault them than was absolutely necessary. I guess infidelity is on of my least favorite topics to make a story out of and it always has been... but to make it all okay in this book because her dad was just a faulty human like all the rest of us wasn't my favorite. The situation was great between the main characters. I liked the past vs. present thing going on between them. It is always interesting to see things through our rear view mirrors. I did like it well enough despite the infidelity and the highly faulty characters to rate it 4 stars, so yeah...I might give her another listen if Julia Whelan is reading for her again.

Popcorn for my brain - not a lot to think about when reading, enjoyed the characters. Narrator is wonderful - as usual!

I like the concept of the book but think Gus is too pigeonholed and not a very forgivable character... while he has obvious trauma to deal with, giving basic details like I'm going out of town for a bit is just rego human decency. I didn't believe that he could possibly be as intuitive/incisive creatively and as oblivious personally as he was. I had similar difficulties with January. I also think grief is a little more all encompassing and at times I literally forgot about that through line because the love story overtook everything. I also need some synonyms here. There was a lot of repetitive word choice going on.

Wow! What a fantastic story. Narrator defined the characters by voice inflections/tones. Made me wanting a continuation of the book.

I didn’t really know what to expect as it’s not my usual type of book but was so pleasantly surprised. Thoroughly engaging from start to finish! A really easy, light, funny and enjoyable book.
