Unabridged Audiobook
Although fiction, the fact based references allowed me to see Joy Davidson in a fresh new way
I felt like this book was a little wordy and a little slow in some places, but the wordiness also allowed the author to create a beautiful picture for the reader. It was a very interesting story which had me rooting for the main character and wanting to flick her in the forehead at the same time. The more I learned about the actual Mrs Lewis, the more I was just fascinated by her strength, courage, brains and gumption. It was a great choice for book club!
The book kept me Riveted and ready for more. Who cares if it was almost 13 hours of listening. I would have listed for 1300 hours as their lives and love for God, each other and life declared!! The human struggle. The grace of God our Father.
Much research has gone into the relationship between Joy & CS Lewis . I loved hearing about home life of Jack and his beloved brother Warnie. I listened to audible as Im not sure I would get through the book due to over abundance of descriptive passages . Choosing the audible was a challenge due to the narrators’s voice & tone . The attempt at British accents especially Jack was dreadful . Jack’s voice should have been a British male . I found the children’s voices irritating .
I thought this was an interesting and captivating story !! A little too long ,because it contained too many descriptions of various landscapes . Otherwise very enjoyable depiction of a very interesting, talented woman !!
One of the central problems with this book was the narration. Lewis's voice was simply awful! It threw the whole thing off. Cloying at best. I struggled to get through it and skipped a lot.
As I struggle to get through the hours of listening, I want to like this book more than I do. The brilliantly plotted story and empathetic character development, the narrator’s Maryland accent is so specific it is hard to believe she is a New Yorker. I cannot fathom how there wasn’t a better choice for such a smart book. Community theater-esque superficial reading at best.
great insight to someone unknown
Wonderful story. Very interesting and insightful.
The narrator could have been better Sometimes I wasn’t sure if it was narrative or conversation. I wish audiobooks would have a male and female presenters.
Loved this book so much. Read it in print. Gave copies to friends. Then bought the audiobook so my husband and I could listen to it on a long driving trip. My husband loved it also.
