Summary
Author of the National Book Award winner All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier. His birth ended his mother's life in Tennessee. Scrawny and wiry, he runs away at the age of 14. As he makes his way westward, the impoverished and illiterate youth finds trouble at every turn. Then he's recruited by Army irregulars, lured by the promise of spoils and bound for Mexico. Churning a dusty path toward destiny, he witnesses unknown horrors and suffering-and yet, as if shielded by the almighty hand of God, he survives to breathe another day. Earning McCarthy comparisons to greats like Melville and Faulkner, Blood Meridian is a masterwork of rare genius. Gifted narrator Richard Poe wields the author's prose like a man born to speak it.

A tale of American barbarism; soaked in blood and pathos. It is the journey of a boy becoming a man amongst killers, set along side the retelling of the Glanton Gang's history. A work of superb historical fiction, matching Clavell's "Shogun" not in length but in the telling. a gripping narrative start to finish

Hands down one of the best books I've ever read. Really eye opening in to the level of violence that was once a part of everyday life. I am not a fan of westerns, but I will be reading this again!!

Beautiful language, oddly used to follow a group of psychopathic mercenary partisans through the blood-soaked war and genocide of mid 19th century American frontierland.

I thoroughly enjoyed this narrator. I thoroughly enjoyed the different perspectives. It's a brutal, gruesome story, not for the faint of heart. It uses language that is not PC so I would refrain from listening to this out loud in public spaces. The story itself has many twists that really made my jaw drop. The Judge needs a story of his own.

Brutally poetic and infinitely compelling, Blood Meridian is a titan among 20th century literature.

Carnage, savagery and human loyalties intertwine in an epic journey across the very Wild West.
