Unabridged Audiobook
Good story telling, easy listening, can’t wait for book 2
great book. I enjoyed the thought and work Melissa did in this book. I'm excited to see what comes next in this story.
A little slow to start but a great book once it got going. Can't wait for the second one!!!!
This almost feels like a parody, such poor writing and forced narrative/worldbuilding. not interesting at all I tried really hard but this is unlistenable.
It left me wanting to find out what happens next
I enjoyed this audiobook. Looking forward to the sequel.
Excellent Book can't wait to hear the next on in the series
The narration lacks a lot of vocal range and the rhythm is odd. The writing annoyed me how often she said the character but a lip or cheek. People don’t do that so often in real life, and there are so many other facial expressions and hand motions one can use. It’s like either the book was rushed to write or not thoroughly edited. Hardly any setting descriptions to give you a feeling of day, night or temperature. I wanted to be able to imagine the surroundings.
I’m hooked! Instantly downloaded book 2!
This reads like an advanced copy. Clunky and monotonous.
Enjoyed it very much
The story is good but it seems that female authors cannot resist using that same boring and annoying "enemies to lovers" trope. I despise that story arc, but like clockwork every female fantasy writer throws it in the story. Its especially bad with fey and vampire/werewolf story lines. So instead of a five this story gets reduced to a four for using that tired and annoying trope. I enjoyed the narrator. Her voice was soothing and enjoyable.
It was just okay. Written we'll for the most part but I never really became attached to any of the characters which lead to the ending being disappointing.
Very boring story, trying too hard to make it long. Every twist and reveal is too obvious.
Great book. Loved it. Left me wanted more.
Great story, but I do have one issue with the details. Swords don’t sit in holsters. They sit in scabbards or sheaths.
Good book can’t wait to listen to the second one
I loved this book. Never a Sci-Fi fan, but this was intriguing. and very well narrated.
Unexpectedly gooood! Can’t wait to start the second book
book has a very good storyline looking forward to next series
Now I'm addicted to another series !!
This was a good book cannot wait for book 2
Once you get into it you won’t want to stop listening
This was really good, and I’m so mad that I can’t immediately jump into book two after that ending! I’m. A. Wreck.
10/2/2024 I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. The characters are well thought out and I liked that the MFC was older. I wish I could see a map of the world but it was described well. The turns or the plot made me want to continue the book more often.
Enjoyed the story line and listening to the narrator tell it.
Great story!! highly recommend for alternatives to the Maas universe
I would be impressed if I’d read this when I was a teenager but when you come to an age like me, you’ve seen and heard a lot of things which this book also brought to the table and was unable to surprise me with its plot line. Best of luck for the next time. The narrator was nice to listen except the male voices. Those were annoying quite a bit.
I loved this series....can't wait to continue listening
I love the way the arguments between the heroine and the love interest were laid out. They were credible and to the point. All in all it is a very well written book that follows just one point of view. It has a constant rhythm, not too slow, not too fast, just right. I found that all the characters were three dimensional and even the more marginal ones were portrayed in such a way that they seemed complex. If you enjoy romance that is enemies to lovers with a morraly Grey character and a slow burn, this is your book.
Loved it. It has some romantasy cliches, as expected, but the protagonist has some particularites that made me love her much more: (without spoiler) she isn't a super young inexperienced girl, she's really well trained and a badas long before she knows the Shadow Daddy, she's multiethnic and experience strong racism... and other things I won't say cause it'll break the surprises. I believe it was inspired in Sarah MAAS and Tolkien works.
21! It took until chapter 21 to finally find this book interesting!!! Smh
I wasn’t sure I was up for the darker sides of this story, but it was well balanced with hope. Looking forward to reading the next.
Great first book in a fantasy series. It has interesting characters, good world building and it’s easy to follow and understand. If you are looking for a book to help get you into fantasy this would be a great option.
I did truly enjoy the premise of this book but the last half hour (which I saw coming unfortunately) ruined it for me, probably won’t read the upcoming books in the series.
Interesting and unusual story
Wow really enjoyed
I loved this and the second book! Super excited for the third one!
Will definitely be following up with the second in the series. Don't know that the sometimes soft porn parts are really necessary, but enjoyed it anyway apart from that.
