Brutal Play will have you feeling EVERYTHING! It’s raw and painful and Lorelai and Noah’s story is absolutely riveting and heartbreaking. I was transfixed by their journey from the very first page and even though I HATED both of their actions at one time or another, I was absolutely enthralled by this emotional and gritty story. I came into this book thinking that I didn’t know how I could like Lorelai, but I ended up empathizing and understanding her motivations completely. Her past is full of trauma and pain and she coped the only way she knew how. She owned her mistakes and worked to become a better person. I admired her strength to rebuild her life after everything came crashing down and how she realized her self-worth and value. Her longing to be better and to atone for her mistakes was heartwrenching. And Noah…at times I despised him and at times I loved him. He was so cruel, selfish, and spiteful and even though I knew he was hurt, that was no excuse for his behaviors. When he realized what had actually happened to Lorelai, he had to work to atone for his own mistakes and to regain her trust that he had so badly broken These were two very imperfect people that had to learn from their past in order to reach a happy and fulfilling place in their lives. They showed that there are areas of gray and that you need to know all the facts before you make a judgement. C.J. Bloom and Edward Black narrated the audio and they are superb. Once again, I found myself completely engrossed in this story and these two brought every bit of pain, longing, and heartbreak to life in their voices. I think the audio made me love this story even more. While this story ripped my heart out, I couldn’t get enough of it. It was so gut-wrenching, angsty, and emotional that I was thinking about it long after I turned the last page. Noah and Lorelai’s journey was one of the hardest and most difficult, but it is so worth the read.

I skimmed the synopsis quickly before deciding to listen to this one. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this. You have a heroine who is looking for redemption and a broody hero who is looking for revenge. The way these two grow and learn how to find their way back to each other was something special. There’s some misunderstood trauma that has to be overcome and the journey was worth the wait.
