Unabridged Audiobook
I actually liked the narrator. He had an accent that sounded similar to New Jersey that kind of fit with the setting. I liked the different voices for the bad guys and the women. I liked the variety of strange characters. The story line was not believable like many horror movies, but it kept my attention and it sent shivers up my spine thinking about what wandering around that old hotel in the dark would be like. I was disappointed in the ending, it seemed like their terrible predicament was solved very quickly and too easily.
I've read several of Morrell's books and enjoyed them. This one seemed like it was written when he was 8 or something.. The dialogue is not just awkward, it's awful. The story is pretty uninspired, and amazingly predictable. The only reason I finished it was because I was waiting for my next book to arrive in the mail...
I'd give it less than 1 star if that option was available. In all fairness, I stopped listening after about 30 min...just couldn't get engaged in such a weird story, and the narration was not very good.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story idea was unique and kept us in suspense throughout. We hope to find more by David Morrell.
The book was ok the premise was no more farfetched than some other books, I've read by major authors. I would recommend it if your going on a long drive, and looking for something different, or if your looking for a decent thriller.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It definitely gave me the creeps though. I would be listening to it at work and then I would think I heard something and would have to get up and look around. While the plot is kind of far fetched, it does get your imagination going. The ending was kind of disappointing, I was hoping for something different. All in all, I enjoyed this book and have looked up some of his others.
I like books that are realistic, but I found that this one stretched the boundaries a little. I did look forward to the next disc though and I will hunt for more books by the same author.
Maybe the unabridged version is better, but the writing and narration of this book is terrible. The storyline is good, but the plot is predictable. At times it's a bit corny and dramatic. The dialog is from a bad B movie! But just when I am ready to give up on it, something interesting happens, hence the 2 stars.
While I thought the premise was an interesting one, I was truly disappointed in the writing and most disappointed in the narrator. It was aweful.
