Summary
This is the novel that ensured Fyodor Dostoevsky's place as a giant of Russian literature. First published in 1866, this legendary work continues to enthrall readers around the world and earn Dostoevsky legions of fans with every printing. Timeless, and breathtaking in scope, Crime and Punishment-the story of a young Russian intellectual's decision to murder a cruel pawnbroker and his subsequent intellectual and spiritual crisis-is one of the most famous novels in all of literature. This absorbing book attacks the overly logical nihilistic ideals of reason and science and proves that only through love, self-denial and suffering comes salvation. George Guidall's fluent interpretation of the Russian names enhances this deep, multi-leveled text, and liberates Dostoevsky's eternal prose with dimensions of color and feeling lost to the printed page alone.

This book is timeless! I had to read it in college, however didn't remember most of it. The narrator really brought the book to life with his excellent intonations of each of the characters, not to mention his perfect pronunciation of the Russian names! I couldn't wait to listen to each section as the story evolved!

Such a classic title with deep meaning behind everything. It starts off quite slow but you’ll soon get right into it. Each character is given a fair share of development, and the author gets deep into the mental state of a man whose committed a crime. Loved it! The narrator added some extra goodness too!

The book took a while to get into because I am not familiar with Russian names, but it is a classic for a reason. The concept around crime, punishment, justice still are relevant today. The emotions and visuals the author supplies are outstanding. The narrator was perfect.

You can’t go wrong with Dostoyevsky and George Guidall as the narrator. That’s a winning duo and sure to be easy listening.
