Summary
#1 New York Times bestseller J.R. Ward shares the powerful star-crossed love story of reader favorite, and original member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Darius.

Darius, son of Marklon, isn’t looking for love the night destiny comes to claim him. He’s also not interested in crashing his new car. But when a human woman runs out into the road and he must swerve to avoid killing her...everything goes off course.

Disillusioned by his King’s lack of leadership and the losses in the war against the Lessening Society, Darius finds purpose in protecting a woman he cannot make his own. Love finds a way, however—until the truth of what he is comes out and she leaves him in horror.

Unbeknownst to them both, Anne is carrying his young, a female who is destined to be Queen—and after a tragic reunion, he vows to protect their daughter. Resigned to perpetual sadness, he is determined to serve the memory of his beloved no matter the cost...unless by some miracle, fate sees fit to once again bring them together.

All of us BDB fans having been begging for Darius’ story. Well, the Queen delivered. And boy did she deliver! First off, Jim Frangione is King to our Queen JR Ward. There, I said it. That man IS BDB. If he ever stopped narrating I would legit rage. True Story – I was crying in Chapter 1. I don’t know how to explain this, but I’ll do my best. For the BDB fans, Darius has been this beautiful presence over the whole BDB world. We didn’t know him. Didn’t know much at all about him. Yet his heart and soul are in every book whether he’s mentioned in it or not. He is so loved and appreciated by the brothers. I know Wrath has been the King (so to speak) since the first BDB book, but Darius unquestionably was a leader and mentor to Wrath and other brothers. And of course, we’ve all been curious of who Beth’s mother was and if there was a significant connection between her and Darius before he died. I went into this audiobook with certain wants or expectations, and I ended it in awe, adulation, and a trash can full of Kleenex. I’m only telling you about my feels and not the story itself because you just have to experience it for yourself. I will just say that you think this is a story of star-crossed lovers, but it’s so much more than you ever bargained for.

I love the these back stories and the AHA, moment in the end with Beth. I hope you do the same with John Matthew, who is one of my favorite Characters.

I've loved every one of these Black Brotherhood books and it was great to hear Darious and Ann's story. Jim Frangione narrating never fails.
