Summary
We've all been there: stuck in a cycle of what-ifs, plagued by indecision, paralyzed by the fear of getting it wrong. Nobody wants to live a life of constant overthinking, but it doesn't feel like something we can choose to stop doing. It feels like something we're wired to do, something we just can't escape. But is it?

Anne Bogel's answer is no. Not only can you overcome negative thought patterns that are repetitive, unhealthy, and unhelpful, you can replace them with positive thought patterns that will bring more peace, joy, and love into your life. In Don't Overthink It, you'll find actionable strategies that can make an immediate and lasting difference in how you deal with questions both small-Should I buy these flowers?-and large-What am I doing with my life? More than a book about making good decisions, Don't Overthink It offers you a framework for making choices you'll be comfortable with, using an appropriate amount of energy, freeing you to focus on all the other stuff that matters in life.

Do you find yourself "overthinking"? Before I read this wonderful book by Anne Bogel, I thought I wasn't really much of an over-thinker, but I still found myself in its pages. In this easy to read book, Anne points out many ways we all overthink - worrying, decision fatigue, and second guessing ourselves, just to name a few of the many she addresses. Turns out most of us spend unproductive mental energy on issues that don't deserve it. Anne not only points out the myriad ways to overthink, but she gives many practical solutions for each type. The solutions are easy to implement and will help free up our minds (and our lives) for more important and enjoyable matters. I appreciated how this book brought all of the "overthinking" issues together in one place, and that the author spent just enough time on each one - giving an explanation and then many possible solutions which made it easy find the one that made the most sense for me. (Sometimes I feel like self-help books are heavy on the "explaining what is wrong with you" part, and light on the "what to do instead" part. Not so with this book.) If you are even a little bit of an over-thinker, you will find something in this book's pages that will make this read worth it to you.

I am an over thinker. I loved this book. Bogel is encouraging and offers some very practical practices. I laughed when I read the simple practice to always start on the left side of a room and work to the right when super cleaning. I enjoyed her section on rhythms and the value of routines. I have read her book club recommendations but found her book when looking for a coaching tool to use with clients that get stuck in decision making. I am a professional certified coach and will be recommending this book as a resource. Brain science will verify that new practices are what change the brain. Enjoy!

Fantastic book. So motivating and practical. Annes’ examples are brilliant because they didn’t leave me wondering how I could apply them to me. Thanks Anne, also thankful for the Christian values.

I didn't think I "needed" to read this book - until I read the first chapter. In Don't Overthink It, Anne Bogel provides practical tips for regaining control of our thought processes. She encourages us to pay attention to our thoughts and choices, spend time deciding what really matters to us, and then gives us a variety of actionable steps we can take to simplify our decision-making process and free our minds from spending unnecessary time and energy thinking (and over-thinking) about things that do not line up with the priorities that we've made for ourselves. And she does this in a very relatable, readable style. Highly recommend!

With everything that is going on now with the Corona virus an excellent read. The message is clear and filled with good personal examples. Several times I was thinking, I do that too. Not only is the message clear, but the voice is soothing to listen to. Just listening to Anne's voice calms me down a lot. It also helps not to be hard on yourself when you find things you need or want to work on.

I so enjoyed this book! Anne Bogel gives practical and freeing strategies for overcoming overthinking. From completing the cycle (aka finishing what you start) to letting go of perfectionism and realizing that (many times) the goal is to get a result, not the best possible experience. To be quite honest, I’d never really thought about the connection between overthinking and striving for perfection. Also, Anne writes a lot about living from our values. If we have a clear hold on our values, what we care about, on what we spend our valuable time and money, we can better make intentional and trustworthy decisions. Decisions that reflect those values, that reflect who we are and who we want to be. I highly recommend Don't Overthink It!
