Unabridged Audiobook
Sad story. Tabloid quality. All sides of Lisa Marie’s family tree seem curiously well-matched in raising children who want for nothing but aren’t equipped to take on adult life. Elvis through talent and luck solved the money question, which is a huge relief in experiencing one’s time on this planet. The work involved in interacting with the world doesn’t end with excess income. Too much emphasis and co-dependence on the cash cow results left individuals overshadowed and overlooked. Filling the deeper needs with famous names, rare access to places/situations, including the ability to seek rehab or switch schools when a family member needed it, seemed to fall short. Ben’s loss seemingly early into his realization of things being amiss comes across as a shortcut to how his story may have gone over a longer stretch. I rated it low because IMO I don’t know that this was a necessary publishing effort. I hope the generations going forward will find the balance and support to experience more satisfying lives.
I loved this book. I binged- read it !I am from her era too and I remembered a lot about the timeline of here life. I was sobbing a lot but it was so well written and organized and beautifully narrated. Both Julia Roberts and Riley did such an incredible job. From all the inflections in their voice and the emotions.I thought it might have been strange to hear Julia Roberts talking as Lisa Marie but quite the opposite. You believe it is Lisa Marie. Thank-you Riley so much for being so brave to put your family and yourself out there. Thank-you for sharing. It has made a big difference in my life as I have similar situations in my family What a special soul you are.
What sad story of someone who didn't know how to deal with the hand she was dealt. A lovely put together book. I loved Julia's narrations, and touching to have her daughters thoughts peppered throughout. The exerts from Lisa's tapes was a great touch, that nonaudio readers won't appreciate
I have always felt a connection to Lisa Marie as long as I can remember. Now I can see the many reasons why. Her great love for her children shows what kind of person she truly was. She is loved and missed by many. Riley, you did a wonderful job honoring her!
I think they shouldn't have used God's name in vain. I cut it off because they did that. It's VERY wrong!
I thought this was such a good listen and I enjoyed Julia Roberts as a narrator. I also liked that they used actual interviews from Lisa Marie herself.
Great read! Sad, and very interesting.
I rarely, if ever write a book review, but I had to with this book. This book was amazingly written. I read it alongside listening to the audible.com reading. At the beginning of each chapter is a recording of LMP speaking. With Julia Roberts narratorating LMP written parts and LMP daughter, Riley, narratorating her written parts.LMP wrote about her grief from the age of 9 when she lost her father to the death of her only son when she was 52 years old. All her life, she tried to find the love her father poured over her. This book was relatable for me as I've dealt with loss, whether it be abandonment or death of a parent, over and over since the age of 8. This is more than just "another celebrity autobiography" LMP never wanted the celebrity lifestyle. She was forced into it. If you deal with trauma due to grief I highly recommend this book. This is a book I'll read again.
loved it
Very good story.
Such heartbreaking story, but what a fascinating listen. Thank you for sharing.
A little hard to follow in the beginning. Overall interesting; sad facts about her dad.
Very good. Heart-wrenching, I had teary eyes.
I loved Riley but not a real fan of Julia Roberts reading.
It was less informative and nothing you haven’t read or seen. You could google the same information for free. Waste of money and time.
A beautiful job for a beautiful family.
Profound!
