I enjoyed the reading by Reese Witherspoon but the story itself was not compelling to me.

This book is a perfect follow up to "To Kill a Mockingbird".

This novel is the perfect is on to Mockingbird . Harper moves you beyond the hopelessly perfect world that all of us Jean Louises, into a world that Atticus could be human in. I loved it. Naturally, Reese was excellent but struggled a bit early on in separating out the vocals of her characters .

Read carefully and comprehend the message of caution...beware of easy answers

After 'To Kill A Mockingbird', this book comes in a very distant 3rd. Oh well.

Disappointing after TKAMB...I really thought we'd see the scout we knew before.

Best part about this book was Reese Witherspoon's narration! Otherwise very boring read.

Problem with the fact that TKAM is written from the perspective of scout as an adult which conflicts with this version of events… Not to mention that in this version ,Atticus won Tom Robinson's case.

This follow a path of slow closure. Times change but many truthful things still exist in the south.

The questions posed in this novel are not about race relations. Don't read it with such expectations.

This was the worst book ever written. Very little happens except the melodramatic and whiny diatribes of self-centered, spoiled Scout. I finished it because it was a free Audio book and tried out the system for walking. It put me off Audio books altogether since if it had been a book I would have just skimmed over the pages and not have to listen to Reese Witherspoon's insufferable Southern twang - but in fairness there was not much she could do with the material.

The book was shocking, that's for sure. But if offers a unique perspective on what was happening in the South during that time. If they ever make this book into a movie, the only person who could play Jean Louise is Reese Witherspoon. Her narration was beautiful.

I loved TKAM and had to read this book. I was shocked and surprised. It was real and true to life in the south in the 1950's. I wasn't expecting such a change in perspective but that's why it's real; TKAM was written from a six year old girls perspective and how she saw the world and her Father. Upon returning to the town that shaped her she sees things as they are; gritty and complex. I don't want to give anything away. We took a long drive from Cali to Utah and the audio-book sure made the trip a lot easier, Reese Witherspoon did an amazing job as a 26 year old Scout and an equally good job as a 72 year old Aticus, she was perfect. The story had some good times with Scout, Jem and Dill as youths but the rest of the story was very surprising and when it was over we turned it off and rode in silence for a few miles just to let it all sink in. The story had to be told.

I truly enjoyed Reese Witherspoon as the narrator. And the book shook me unexpectedly at the end. I haven't experienced that in a very long time. Another classic. I'll listen again.

There is no way you can be objective if you love the characters in TKAM. Even with the understanding that this was "work in progress" the change of perspective does not lend itself to a total change of character development. Harper Lee was right in her original decision to not publish this work. Do not read!

This book has generated an interesting conversation-which I think is the point of a well written story. The take away is so different from person to person. I think the narrative was well written, and thought through. It is a book better understood on a deeper level, and not the initial surface reaction you may have to parts of the story. Witherspoon's narration was spot on. It is nice to hear a southern twang that is authentic and perfect for the story. I loved this book. It only makes me the sadder we will not have the experience of any more Harper Lee stories. It also made me want to re-read Mockingbird. This book exemplifies realitly then and now. Worth a read-

The book was good, but I enjoyed the flash-backs to her youth days, as apparently the publishers also did. The ending to me was somewhat disapointing and anticlimatic. Mrj

We simply could not finish this one. We purchased it for entertainment on a trip, however we found it dragged on and was better for putting us to sleep. It was quite disappointing as we were excited by the promise of such an iconic author.

This prequel has interesting stories about the old South and embellishes on the interesting characters in "To Kill a Mocking Bird." The story line will be difficult to follow and not very interesting to readers who have not already read or heard "To Kill a Mocking Bird." Reese Witherspoon was a great narrator who made what would probably be a boring read come to life.

Worth reading just because of the iconic author and success of the prequel. Ably narrated by Reese Witherspoon. I felt the book was a bit odd - the take-away made sense but you went through a lot of nonsense and domestic abuse to get there.

Amazing . Takes you back to the south in the days of preduice and southern kindness. The narration is impeccable!
