The Hound of the Baskervilles

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Narrated By: Laurie Anne Walden

Date: January 2011

Duration: 5 hours 54 minutes

Summary:

What really killed Sir Charles Baskerville? Is his nephew, Sir Henry, in danger from the legendary family curse, a gigantic black hound? Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are on the case in this classic mystery, set on lonely Dartmoor in Devonshire. Neolithic ruins, a perilous quagmire, eerie sounds in the night, and (of course) fog all add to the fun, with an escaped convict thrown in for good measure. (Summary by Laurie Anne Walden)

This was such a slow-moving story, something I'm sure is due to the fact the narrator sounds like a 6 year old that can only read one word at a time. Unlike most audiobooks, I was unable to get emerged in this book because the voice is too jarring. The book itself was probably, therefore, not shown in a true light.

I’ve read the book before and loved it. The narrator was awful. Sherlock Holmes should not be read by someone with a southern drawl. She also was just a lousy reader. Slow, jerky and very hard to listen to.

I really enjoyed this story and narration, I remember watching the movie many years ago. The book is much better

One of my favorite Sherlock Holmes stories. First time I’ve listened to it and the narrator did a wonderful job. I have always heard a male voice in my mind, as a Dr Watson narrator, but the Ms Walden came through flying colors. No hesitation with no hesitation while speaking. Thoroughly enjoyed this reading on my drive from El Paso to McAllen.

I listened in the car while driving from NY to Florida. It was great company and helped make a long drive easier. Some books that I have listened to can be very monotone but not this one. Good job
