Summary
What really killed Sir Charles Baskerville? Is his nephew, Sir Henry, in danger from the legendary family curse, a gigantic black hound? Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are on the case in this classic mystery, set on lonely Dartmoor in Devonshire. Neolithic ruins, a perilous quagmire, eerie sounds in the night, and (of course) fog all add to the fun, with an escaped convict thrown in for good measure. (Summary by Laurie Anne Walden)

I loved it!!!

This was such a slow-moving story, something I'm sure is due to the fact the narrator sounds like a 6 year old that can only read one word at a time. Unlike most audiobooks, I was unable to get emerged in this book because the voice is too jarring. The book itself was probably, therefore, not shown in a true light.

I’ve read the book before and loved it. The narrator was awful. Sherlock Holmes should not be read by someone with a southern drawl. She also was just a lousy reader. Slow, jerky and very hard to listen to.

Having read the story so many decades ago, I had fortunately forgotten the characters and details. A good story that recalls how the aristocracy were wont to go to the colonies and return to life in England. As often the case with other tales of Holmes, available fromLibriVox, it was recorded by an American female narrator. With the principal characters Englishmen, a British male narrator would have been preferable, but the Carolina accent was pleasant to hear.

What a marvelously written book! I thoroughly enjoyed Laurie Anne’s reading. She interprets the story well with appropriate inflections!

Great story but definitely not the best, gives Watson a much bigger lead which is good. Narration was OK however from my last audio book you can tell how much more easier it is to follow when the narrator uses different voices for each character.

I really enjoyed this story and narration, I remember watching the movie many years ago. The book is much better

One of my favorite Sherlock Holmes stories. First time I’ve listened to it and the narrator did a wonderful job. I have always heard a male voice in my mind, as a Dr Watson narrator, but the Ms Walden came through flying colors. No hesitation with no hesitation while speaking. Thoroughly enjoyed this reading on my drive from El Paso to McAllen.

I listened in the car while driving from NY to Florida. It was great company and helped make a long drive easier. Some books that I have listened to can be very monotone but not this one. Good job

Did a good job with this one, once I got use to her southern accent. It’s funny I realized I’ve always heard this story from the British.

Good Sherlock Holmes yarn which I always enjoy revisiting as book, film version, radio drama etc. I enjoyed this audiobook despite the American accent which didn't quite suit this quintessentially English story. The narration was fair and only the US pronunciation of "inquiry" jarred (inkwirry) and I became accustomed to her voice and she improved as she read further. For a free audiobook it would be churlish to complain.

The book was superb. But the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle should not be read by a southern United States woman with a southern drawl. They should be read by a narrator with a British accent either male or female.

I loved the story, I really should have found a version with a different narrator. There wasn't enough inflection or any vocal distinction between characters so at times the flow of conversation was difficult to understand. It also sounded like it was the narrators first time through the material and it was painful to listen to and word by word narration without any rhythm or flow. But the story was amazing enough to keep me listening anyway.

Now that I have time while I'm hunkered down, hiding from coronavirus, I'm going back and listening to classics I missed reading in high school. This one is well worth the read.

This is the greatest mystery story ever written as evidenced by the enormous number of movies, radio and television shows produced with it as the basis

I think I hated this book. This was my first Dean Koontz book. From the flowery dialogue to the vague reasoning behind the issues at hand. The ending left me hanging. If this had been a paper book I would have read the last chapter to see if the book had a plausible outcome. As it is I listened to the whole miserable book and was left hanging. No more Koontz for me.
