Summary
It's been three months since all the adults disappeared. Gone. Food ran out weeks ago, and starvation is imminent. Meanwhile, the normal teens have grown resentful of the kids with powers. And when an unthinkable tragedy occurs, chaos descends upon the town. There is no longer right and wrong. Each kid is out for himself, and even the good ones turn murderous. But a larger problem looms. The Darkness, a sinister creature that has lived buried deep in the hills, begins calling to some of the teens in the FAYZ. Calling to them, guiding them, manipulating them.

The Darkness has awakened. And it is hungry.

The narration is horrible. I couldn't finish the book because his voice was so bad.

I love the series and Hunger is no exception. I won't get too much into that, iust that I do strongly recommend it. As for the narrator, at first he almost kept me from being able to enjoy the first book (Gone), JORDAN SAID. I actually just had a hard time taking things seriously because I laughed every time there was dialogue and the narrator said "SAID". Regardless of what is going on in the story, regardless of any context, excitedly or whispered statements end with "....SAID". All I can say is that you get used to it and I sincerely do love Kyle McCarleys narration beyond that one simple (but very frequent) thing. By halfway through Hunger I hardly noticed it anymore. Except for occasionally registering it and kind of oddly appreciating it with a chuckle. i think I probably would have gotten used to it sooner if not for having almost assumed that it was so distracting and blatantly obvious that he would have changed how HE SAID "said" by Hunger. I mean surely enough people would have critiqued it that changes would be made. Nope! Ah well... Either way, as I SAID, I kind of enjoy it now and I do think most people can/will get used to it with some patience. Anyone deterred from listening to these novels because of it is truly missing out on countless hours of seemingly endless and consistently great books. I also stand by my statement that the narration really is extremely well done otherwise. I would have enthusiastically given Kyle McCarley 5 stars if not for the whole dialogue thing. i am willing to get a lot of the reviews are pretty harshly lower rated based solely on that one thing. I'd eveb say 4.5 stars since I did grow strangely fond of the humor in it and the jokes it lead to between my wife and I.

Really annoying that there's a long pause after every sentence...... Plus the narrator is awful. If only YouTube had the complete audiobook.
