Summary
Fantasy meets crime caper in the first book of a landmark, enduringly popular epic series about a roguish group of conmen, which George R. R. Martin has called “fresh, original, and engrossing . . . gorgeously realized.”

An orphan’s life is harsh—and often short—in the mysterious island city of Camorr. But young Locke Lamora dodges relentless danger, becoming a thief under the tutelage of a gifted con artist. As leader of the band of light-fingered brothers known as the Gentlemen Bastards, Locke is soon infamous, fooling even the underworld’s most feared ruler. But in the shadows lurks someone still more ambitious and deadly. Faced with a bloody coup that threatens to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the enemy at his own brutal game—or die trying.

This book was incredible. Scott Lynch is brilliant and Michael Page does an amazing job at conveying the characters. This is a story about thieves living in a high fantasy world. These thieves aren't particularly powerful, so when magic comes into place in this book it's absolutely terrifying because you're seeing it through the lens of the non-magical. I would highly recommend this book if you like interesting takes on fantasy, good friendships, or you want to read a darker and sadder Robin Hood.

The narrator puts a lot of effort into the characters and the universe is a great spin on fantasy where the main characters mostly fear magic instead of controlling it.

This was a fun adventure! It has a lot of jumping between past and present and while some people find it unpleasant, I find that it kept me on my toes because sometimes I was confused but in a good way. I don't know what else to say without spoiling the story, so if you enjoy a world similar to ours, but with a light touch of magic and a different set of rules to live by, then I recommend this fun adventure. By the end I rushed into the next book

The plot was often interrupted with a flashback chapter that added no value in my opinion and disrupted the plot

narration was very good, he brought the story to life. I could not get into this story at all. I read it because of all the positive reviews but for me it was very hard to finish.
