Summary
High risk, high reward: a $5 million heist is the perfect job for Ned Kelly. But when it all goes horribly wrong, he discovers a world of secrets and sabotage.
The danger isn't in the water.

Working as a lifeguard at a Florida resort, Ned Kelly meets a woman he is wild about, the woman of his dreams. It feels perfect in every way - except that she is used to caviar and Manolo Blahniks, and he is used to burgers and flip-flops. She is a guest at the luxurious hotel - he lives above a garage.

So when Ned's cousin offers to cut him in on a rich deal he's been commissioned to execute, Ned can't turn him down. The plan is simple, just a fast break-and-enter. The risk is high, and the reward is even greater--$5 million. But on the night of the heist, something goes devastatingly wrong. Who will save the lifeguard?

Ned walks away from his job, his town, and the woman he's fallen in love with. Runs away, actually, knowing that only velocity and secrecy can save his life. But who is pursuing him? The FBI? Whoever sabotaged the heist? Or is it all somehow tied into his new love - and his oldest enemies?

The best part of this rental is the narrator!! He made the book come alive for me. The book plays out like a Hollywood movie and has lots of twists and surprises throughout. I can’t wait to get to the end! Very exciting.

This was a good book but not a great one. I liked it but at the same time it did not grab me. Entertaining but not engrossing.

I felt like I was watching one of those movies you keep saying don't go in there, but they always do. The character kept doing stupid things and having the worse luck, but all ended in a fairy tale ending. It was a good book.

Kept my interest all the way through. One thing I've noticed is that Patterson kills a number of people in his books - never just 1. But a good read in any case.

This was my first experience with a James Patterson novel and I loved it! I'm now a fan serching for anything he has ever written.

The story has a very good plot. Patterson develops the characters well. But there's still something missing... almost like when you have deja vu. Something triggers a memory. You remember it was a really good dream but you just can't put all the pieces together to make it complete.

Okay story kind of just dragged on. It was almost like the road runner that always gets away from the coyote

I drove around and around the block. I just didn't want to stop listening. If you like thriller mysteries Patterson always delivers

I found the story to have suspense and all the drama that made it enjoyable to listen to. I thoroughly enjoy it.

A commute listen. The end was a little predictable, but that's okay the story was good not to stressful but enough to keep you coming back for more.

Not my favorite James Patterson book but still pretty good.

Lifeguard was a fun listen. James Patterson's books in general are just guilty pleasures. Narrator does a great job. I found myself looking forward to getting back in the car to listen in!

Loved this book. This is the first James Patterson I've heard. It kept me interested just like reading his books. It definetly made my work day go by so fast.

In true James Patterson fashion, this is a quick, fun story to listen to. I like listening to it at work when I have filing or the "boring, mundane" work to do. It made it go by a lot faster!

It was an interesting and captivating story. Great story for a long commute home!

A very good book, but it began to drag after awhile. I was desperate for it to end. There were almost too many plots and subplots. I think I would have enjoyed a abridged version better.

James Patterson is to writing as Thomas Kincade is to painting: it's just a business.

Patterson has, to my mind, certainly done better work. The believablity factor on this one is just way off the scale on the unbelievable side. Decent story with good characters. Narrator was average. Just good, not great and not up to Patterson's normal level.

I don't think I've listened to a James Patterson book I didn't like so far. This book was equally entertaining and well-written. I was eager to find out how it ended. The only thing I didn't like was the justification that even though you do a crime, it has a happy ending and that crime does pay. Seems like a wrong message to convey.

There was not much about lifeguarding in this book, but the art world and crime that take place are very intriguing. Couldn't wait to get back in the car everyday to finish this one!

Enjoyed the book. Not the greatest Patterson book, but certainly not the worst!

Very predictable & a little cheesy. What it had to do w/a lifeguard i'm still wondering... The best thing about it was it wasn't overtly gorey like many of the more recent Patterson books.

I really liked this story, I just thought it was too long and I did not like the fact that half way through the story I had to wait to hear the second half. This story kept you on the edge of your seat and I love that about a story.

James Patterson does it again, good read, right on the edge of your seat. Love those books....heart racing, head pounding what is going to happen next!!

Overall this was a good book. The characters were sometimes a little hard to follow, which may have simply been because there were so many, and obviously with an audiobook you can't reference back through the pages. The ending was a bit trite and predictable. A typical Patterson novel. But overall, it was enjoyable and made my work day fly by.

This book was true James Patterson....intrigue, passion and lots of adventure! I enjoyed it from beginning to end!

This book started out a bit slow, with pretty conventional acts of violence and fugitive behavior, but by disc 5 I was hooked and went into a mode where I'd feel bad if I had to take a passenger in my car because it meant I couldn't listen to my book. Pretty standard fiction (so it doesn't get a 5/5), but still good.

This was a very typical James Patterson - quick, enjoyable, nothing very deep, but definitely good entertainment.

Another incredible thriller by James Patterson! It's an edge-of-your-seat story that keeps you guessing along the way. My favorite character was Solly Rothchild, though Ellie and Ned were solid as well. Nice summertime commuter listen!

Once again, James Patterson has outdone himself with a tale of suspense and unending drama. You can't not like the main character, Ned, even though you know he's in for a rollercoaster ride because he's always trying to find the short cut. I enjoy James Patterson for his ability to tell a story with great characters and lots of twists and turns along the way.

Kept me locked in and wanting to hear more. I thought it was ready to end... twice... but it just kept going, and I was surprised that there were still more twists to be added.

A good read by James Patterson.... his books have been running hot and cold lately, but this one was one of his better works as of late. The narration wasn't too bad either, and even had some sound effects, which were a nice change.

Patterson and Gross have done it again. The co-writing team has a writing personality that is recognizable and enjoyable. Lifequard takes a Gross character and combines it with a Patterson plot creating another memorable non-series hit. The plot is fresh and new, the characters alive and far from predictable. The story twists and turns and wends its way to a lengthy climax and denouement that are satisfying and thrilling. If you are a Patterson fan, you'll not be disappointed. I look forward to more collaborations with these two masters. So far, they're on a roll!

Patterson has a history of being one of my favorites. The urgency of getting Neddy boy out of trouble had dissapated somewhat. I do recommend reading the book. Even a 3 star Patterson book is a notch above the rest.

Good reader and an interesting mystery/drama == it got a little long in the end, but over all, worth renting.

I have read everything by James Patterson, he is one of my favorite authors. However, when he leaves his Alex Cross series it's like he becomes a different author. Less intense, less edgy. Absolutley stay away from "the flying, winged, children" books he's written. I'm convinced those were a drug trip or druken stupor deviation. This one however wasn't bad at all. Just not the Patterson that knows how to deliver a great paced exciting page turning book. I really would like to know how his mind works.

I usually don't comment on the cds I listen to, but in this case it was simply excellent.

This was my first James Patterson book. It was an OK read, but by the time it was over, I has glad. It just seemed a little cheesy and all too predictable. It is your typical, criminal falls in love with the FBI agent working his case. I just wasn't that impressed with it, although I did love listening to Billy Campbell read the book. He was great.

As always, James Peterson does a great job. Not as good as an Alex Cross story, but still a good book. Worth a listen!

Definitely drew me in, and kept my ride to work interesting. The audio quality was great, as was the reading and sound effects. My first book with simply audiobooks - can't wait for the rest.

I am a big fan of James Patterson's "Alex Cross" series, but I have never really gotten into any of his other works until Lifeguard. This book was very well written and suspenseful. The plot twists were very entertaining and completely unexpected. I very much enjoyed this book
