Summary
A “gripping' memoir (Rolling Stone) of one man’s descent into the depths of addiction and self-destruction—and his successful renewal of family ties that had become almost irreparably frayed.

On the surface, Cameron Douglas had everything: descended from Hollywood royalty (son of Michael Douglas, grandson of Kirk Douglas), he was born into a life of wealth, privilege, and comfort. But by the age of thirty, he had become a drug addict, a thief, and—after a DEA drug bust—a convicted drug dealer sentenced to five years in prison, with another five years added while he was incarcerated.

Through supreme willpower, a belief in himself, and a steely desire to alter his life’s path, Douglas began to reverse his trajectory, to understand and deal with the psychological turmoil that tormented him for years, and to prepare for what would be a profoundly challenging but successful reentry into society at large.

I agree with Anonymous, but I did listen to the whole book. I was waiting for the time when he realized he was not just a drug addict, but a complete f*cking prick. Didn't happen. He really is a complete f*cking prick, and doesn't know it. I will not be surprised when he ends up in prison again. Hoping he doesn't, but will not be surprised.

Enjoyed this. Some areas of entitlement and self-pity, acknowledged by author and narrator, but nonetheless caused me to disconnect a bit. I’m giving up smoking and I thought his entrenched drug issues and how he is now clean would offer some motivation without turning to self-help books. Enjoying this enough to listen to when walking and at night in bed.

Loved this book !!! Wow his bravery and honesty is amazing. His journey is just heartbreaking and I can only hope for him to have a long and wonderful life after what he has been thru. His writing skills amazing. I was blown away at how someone can check their pride at the door and completely reveal the good, bad and sad. Bless his heart I am a forever fan ❤️

This is a self indulgent child reminiscing about his delinquent escapades. I had to stop listening. I'm assuming that he eventually straightens out and lives a somewhat responsible life but there isn't much to recommend this book in the first five or so hours. Baffled why it was given 5 stars. Will not rely on your recommendations in the future.
