Unabridged Audiobook
This was hardly a story, more a narration of a gruesome research project of disease , pestilence and plague. Have a strong stomach if you choose this book unless maybe you are an epidemiologist. YUG
I really enjoyed this book, both the author and narrator. Beautifully written with style, flow and fascination by Douglas Preston and superbly narrated with excellent grasp and capture of the author’s intent by narrator Will Mumy. I will look for them both in future listen’s. A fascinating story about a recently found ancient city in the jungles of Honduras. It’s a great story of expedition, lost civilization, discovery, interesting people, dangers faced; snakes, Jaguars and jungle infections. The story leads into both old and modern history of Honduras it’s ancient inhabitants but also the current government and their modern and future challenges. I’m a doctor and found the details about Leishmaniasis epidemiology, diagnosis and Treatment at NIH absolutely fascinating! Loved it!!!
Amazing book and narrator especially
Interesting story the ending devolved into a lecture about how Europeans where totally responsible for destroying North and South American culture .. Very disappointed, and an inaccurate historical representation of events ,
Love this book, I am learning so much. I didn't know there was so much rich history in our neighbors down south
I thought the book was an excellent read especially the part of going into the jungle and discovering the lost treasures. The book did go on a separate trail for me when it delved into micro-organisms and the impact these play on past and present history. I wish the author of the book would have stayed on the topic of the discovery rather than infectious illnesses. Aside from this, it was a very interesting read.
The Lost City of the Monkey God was very, very interesting particularly if you are interested in archaeology and the culture of the Americas. I thought the narrator did a fine job too. I also learned a lot about pandemics and how they decimated civilizations. I am not sure everyone would like this book but I recommend it to readers drawn to this subject.
