I've been reading/listening to the Sherbrook series by Catherine Coulter, and had enjoyed the books - until Mad Jack. Apparently Gray is friends with the Sherbrooks, but for some reason, the Sherbrooks - quite against their genteel upbringing - keep barging into his house unannounced with their problems, and having absolutely ridiculous arguments in front of everybody. With some more character development and flushing out of the story, Mad Jack could have stood on its own without the "help" of the Sherbrooks. There is a relatively good story buried in there, but you have to put up with a lot of back stories and mind numbing conversations that have very little if anything to do with the plot (or subplots, as there are none). You can skip this book and not miss a beat in the Sherbrook saga.
