Summary
In the vein of Jurassic Park, this high concept thriller follows a group of graduate students lured to Hawaii to work for a mysterious biotech company—only to find themselves cast out into the rain forest, with nothing but their scientific expertise and wits to protect them. An instant classic, Micro pits nature against technology in vintage Crichton fashion. Completed by visionary science writer Richard Preston, this boundary-pushing thriller melds scientific fact with pulse-pounding fiction to create yet another masterpiece of sophisticated, cutting-edge entertainment.

This book tends to drag in places, and isn't as polished as some of Crichton's other books. And "honey, I shrunk the scientists" isn't exactly original. Having said that, I find myself far more interested in soil, scents and bugs than I ever would have believed possible. For that I am most grateful, and am willing to overlook some of the weaknesses of the plot in turn.

If you like Michael Crichton you’ll probably want to avoid this book. It was definitely not written by the master and Richard Preston was certainly not up to the task of finishing it off after Crichton’s death. It is a shame because it should have been a terrific thriller in the style of his other book Prey. In this the dialogue is wooden, the characters are boring and the story is so ludicrous. It sounds like it was written by a junior high school student on term break. Eruption was also finished for Michael Crichton after his death, but that was done with incredible finesse, so that you can truly imagine that it was written by Crichton.

Loved it a very fun ride.

Micro reads like a cross between Honey I shrunk the kids and Land of the Lost. If they ever make a movie it would be a good candidate for Mystery Science Theater. Good naaratoon might have made it a little better, but we don't even get that.
