Summary
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF WRITING with fresh testimonials from fellow writers about why they love Stephen King and On Writing—and a few new words on the joy of writing from King himself.

*ONE OF TIME MAGAZINE’S TOP 100 NONFICTION BOOKS OF ALL TIME*

Immensely helpful and illuminating to any aspiring writer, this special edition of Stephen King’s critically lauded, million-copy bestseller shares the experiences, habits, and convictions that have shaped him and his work.

“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery. Brilliantly structured, friendly and inspiring, On Writing will empower and entertain everyone who reads it—fans, writers, and anyone who loves a great story well told.

The twentieth-anniversary audio edition includes Owen King reading his essay, “Recording Audiobooks for My Dad, Stephen King,” and a recorded conversation with Joe Hill and Stephen King.

This is worth the read even if you're not planning to write a book. But then it might just inspire you to put pen to paper.

A lot of great practical advice, along with great anecdotes. Loved that SK himself narrated.

Pretty good. I guess the best thing about it was the telling of personal stories. The “no magic bullet” piece is spot on. I disagree with never using adverbs, but I suppose to each his own. The narration was good.

The stories were well structured and helped me explain to others the craft of writing. Regardless of the reason why I chose to relate some of the instructions to my students, the book offers an entertaining view on the nuances of the crafting of a story.

Very enjoyable reading his evolution from childhood writing into the writer he is today. Knowing that he’s the narrator made it even more fun.

Very good book. A lot of background information on the author which tells about how he got into writing. A lot of good information on writing with examples and understandable explantations. I'm not a writer and don't plan to become one, but I still found this book very interesting. And it's always fun to listen to Mr. King narrate his own books.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. The mix of personal memoir and concrete writing advice was entertaining and helpful and helped me to visit my own writing in a new way. It feels like a tale your favourite uncle might tell you.

Quintessential reading for every high school kid out there. Brilliant and funny. Many life lessons here though meant for the craft of writing. I’ve listened to it 12 times.

I know a lot of people don't like King's voice for audiobooks, and this is my first time hearing him read a book, but I really liked it. Added a lot of character.

informative, well written and narrated.

I love how blunt he is! Tells it like it is, straight shooter, doesn't sugar coat anything. Love the autobiographical aspect with the stories and the very very end with the life advice is the best part! Thanks Stephen!

Highly motivational and loaded with excellent advice for new writers. He didn't have to finish this book - so grateful he did.

Stephen King’s audio book was amazing because i felt he was sitting in the passenger seat of my car, rallying me to write. It impacted me so much that i bought a laptop and began writing for pleasure! Love this audiobook and plan to use it as a resource for inspiration!
