Summary
Having left Sherlock Holmes apparently deceased at the conclusion of The Final Problem (in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes), we now find that he is alive after all! In this collection, first published in 1905, the great detective causes Watson to faint (The Empty House), demonstrates that cryptography is elementary (The Dancing Men), and gets engaged (Charles Augustus Milverton). Join in the fun as Holmes deduces his way through these thirteen adventures. (summary by Laurie Anne Walden)

Sherlock Holmes is one of my most favorite characters, However, one thing about the reading of some of the stories. Since Dr. Watson is the “narrator “ the use of a female voice sounds wrong to me. I do think these stories should be read by a male. That is not meant to imply that women are inadequate In any way, Merely to state that IN MY OPINION, the story, written in a bygone error, would be better served if read in a male voice. Narrators need more interest in their voices which are quite monotone

Excellent classic stories of Sherlock Holmes told by Dr. Watson. Most of the narrators of this book are good, a few are hard to understand. Not bad at all for Librivox.

Enjoyed hearing the stories from times gone bye and although the narrations were clear, narrators who were native Americans mispronounced some words, especially people's and place names. Since the principal characters are men, female narrators were less enjoyayable to listen to.

I have seen some of these stories on Youtube and enjoy listening to them because the story gives more detail. . I just recently started watching and listening to detective programs and audiobooks. My opinion is that Arthur Conan Doyles stories are more male oriented. The female voice lacks the manly sound for the male characters. Holmes and Watson require a deeper voice to carry the story.

Most of the narrators do a good job, however one did sound robotic and lacked feeling, hence the 4 instead of 5 stars. She still read clearly,

Classic title. Whilst some of the plot devices will seem naive and ham-fisted to a modern reader, it must be remembered that Conan-Doyle was a pioneering author of the detective genre and has since been much copied and improved upon. The narration is steady enough although there are some mistakes in pronunciation and errors in reading some grammar and sentence structure. That being said, all narrators have freely given their time to ensure that classic titles can be heard so I believe a few mistakes a very forgivable
