Summary
When Mary Lennox's parents die from cholera in India, the spoiled orphan is transplanted to her uncle's 600-year-old gloomy and secretive estate in England. She is certain that she is destined for misery at Misselthwaite Manor. When Mary meets the old groundskeeper, he is the first to tell her what he thinks of her: 'We was wove out of th' same cloth. We're neither of us good lookin' an' we're both of us as sour as we look. We've got the same nasty tempers, both of us, I'll warrant.'

However, Mary soon discovers an arched doorway into an overgrown garden that has been locked shut since the death of her aunt ten years earlier. Fate grants Mary access to the secret garden and she begins transforming it into a thing of beauty—unaware that she, too, is changing.

Oh man. This was really fun. I can't believe I never read The Secret Garden. It's a pretty kooky story and makes for a very enjoyable listen.

I guess classics become classics for a reason. This is just a heartwarming story that makes you feel happy and want to go plant some flowers.

What a lovely English story. The narrator is exceptionally good, using so many convincing voices and gets the dialect right. Charming and made me yearn for times when the English were a polite classy breed.

A great little story about hope and childhood and how appreciating the natural beauty and order of creation can lead to redemption. Heavy themes for what I always thought of as a kid's book, even a girl's book. But such is the way with early 20th century literature, even if it is aimed towards kids. And the book is probably more of a boy's book since the narrative focus seems to shift after the opening to Colin and his relationship with his father. Well worth the listen. The narrator is immensely talented, doing different dialects and voices so well you get as real a sense of the characters as if you'd seen them in a movie.

My favourite story as a child. A moment of nostalgia had me downloading this book. And it was worth it. The narrator is excellent and you’ll easily slip into the ease of the character voice changes without any trouble. A glorious retelling of a glorious story.
