When Mary Lennox, who has been brought up in India in a spoiled manner, is orphaned she has to move to Yorkshire, England, to live with her uncle in Misselthwaite Manor. I love the book. The narrator has a great voice. I still do not like the interruption between chapters.

Profile Avatar ERIN C. Oct 2019

Love this story; a classic! Narration was mostly good but had its moments where the narrator was distracted and at one point I heard someone in the background yell to her that dinner was done. Lol but overall it was done well enough.

A nice book, very queer book. Though I am a boy I still like A Little Princess by Francis Hogson Bernet.

Profile Avatar Wania V. Jul 2019

I love the story!!! The narrator did a wonderful job!

Brought back memories of my childhood. Well done to the narrator .

Really enjoyed the book

Profile Avatar Brittany M. Oct 2020

I've only seen the movie but honestly I liked the book a lot better.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2020

The book is sweet. The children growing along with the garden is heartwarming. The narrator was perfect for this book. I enjoyed listening to her read.

Profile Avatar Troy A. Sep 2020

I'm used to darker books, so this was a more refreshing tale.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2020

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book I didn’t want to put it down it was so good thank you

Profile Avatar Christine G. Jun 2018

I enjoyed this book immensely, and the narrator did a fine job!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2017

really good choice on the narrator

Profile Avatar Krista D Jul 2017

I very much enjoyed this book! The narrator did a good job. Only a few times you could hear background noises. Overall great story and great reader!

Profile Avatar Jennifer Ferguson Jan 2017

Enjoyable listen. The narration of so many free books is very bad. They miss any variation in tone and emotion. This one is better than most, odd at times that it sounds like she is reading it at a cafe.

Amazing.

Profile Avatar T-Money Jan 2025

Good book. nice marattor, she could have done more voices. the pauses between the chapters are annoying though.

beautifully read with a lovely english accent

Profile Avatar Chloe V. Dec 2023

narration was good. narrator has some tumbles with words, but otherwise did well

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2023

Lovely story. But narrator a bit hesitant in places

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2023

I thought it was a very entertaining book I’ve heard, It will be hard to beat.

Profile Avatar Rondavooo Jul 2025

I’ve never read this book before. Now, at 57, I decided to give it a try. I honestly couldn’t put it down. It is lovely and sweet, and it was a nice easy read. The narrator is Ashley Jane. She has such a sweet voice, and even though I don’t think it was intentional, her fast speech, her hesitation, and her breathlessness, made her reading a children’s story that much more real and charming.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2023

A very enjoyable story, that has a positive outcome for life.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2023

really enjoyed the book. The pauses between chapters could be improved.

Profile Avatar R M R Apr 2023

Lovely story and the narrator is nice too.

Profile Avatar CHANCE O. Mar 2023

Excellent, I could listen to the book again!!!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2022

I enjoyed the book. It was very interesting story. The narration’s voice was good but background noise (buzz) at times was annoying.

Profile Avatar Joy S. Sep 2022

This is a LibriVox audio and as such it isn’t as smooth as many others. On the plus side, it is the best I’ve heard to date. Less background noise, etc. The story is of course great, it’s a classic. It had been years since I read the book, so I really enjoyed listening to it again. I love how the unhappy people find a better life when they get involved with nature, reach out to others, etc. So many problems can be overcome if you look beyond your self. Great lesson for our times.

Profile Avatar Sanna H. Aug 2022

Book and the story are quite nice. The reader unfortunately is not so consistent and there are breaks in the flow. Also quite a lot of background noices at times - dishes clattering and children's voices can be heard.

Profile Avatar PapaWholeWheat Jun 2022

the voice really fit the book, and the book was rather wholesome

Profile Avatar Tiger Rose Jan 2022

excellent

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2021

Her voice was great for the characters.. and she conveyed the feeling that she really liked the story

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2021

The narrator was perfect for this book. I read the book as a child. Now reading it as a mom is quite different

Profile Avatar Scrappy Oct 2021

Good read.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2021

Wonderful story

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2021

Beautifully read although haltingly her voice was perfect for the story. Very pleased she was the only narrator

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2021

It wasn’t the best not for me can’t really get myself to finish it. I don’t really recommend it for people who don’t have the patience to sit around and listen to a 7 hour book and that’s not me.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2021

Loved this

Profile Avatar Laura Brown Mar 2021

This book was even BETTER than the movie which actually leaves out or changes important things. I remember this from childhood and I loved it then and now even more! The narrator does a superb job with reading, plus her accent is so great to listen to as well!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2021

Loved it. Narrator is good to.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Feb 2021

Loved this Audio book! Narrator was awesome! Thank you!

Profile Avatar Terry W. Feb 2021

A secret treasure a story faith in the wonder of life. A story that belongs in this age

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2021

Great story. The narrator brought the book to life.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2021

This book brought me back to reading it as a child! I loved this story and I always will! The writer was very descriptive and I can vividly see the story in my mind! Very enjoyable to listen to and leaves you with a happy feeling. The narrator had a pleasant voice and was easy to listen to.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2020

It was a beautiful story and I liked the narrator.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2020

An amazing book

Profile Avatar Rebekah Livingstone Oct 2020

wonderful and tge accent made it even better.

Profile Avatar Xhante Sep 2020

I noticed some parts were taken out. Why? It’s not offensive. That’s just the way people thought back then. That disappoints me a little. As far as the narrator, I understand that we’re getting this for free and aside from a bit of stumbling - I liked it very much. I even thought it was funny when you can hear someone (her mother?) say something like “That’s enough!”

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2020

Great story and narration.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2020

The Secret Garden was sad and then found friendships with little boy and a girl found friendship that friendship made he rethink everything to sick little boy to someone who could live I think everyone need a friend like that

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2020

Reader not a gardener. Struggled with plant names otherwise a good listen

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2020

Great light hearted read

Profile Avatar James D. Jun 2020

For me, the narrator was perfect and made the book exponentially better. I can’t believe this is the work of a volunteer. Ashley Jane has the perfect accent, the perfect intonation. She transported me right into the novel and I felt I was really there. This version of The Secret Garden has been transformed from a classic into a work of art by such a spectacular match of narration and content.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jun 2020

Loved it! Took me back to childhood days and didn’t disappoint

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2020

Really enjoyed this book during my daily cononavirus walks. Narration was good, especiallythe Yorkshire accents!

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2020

Superb book. Narrator very poor, unable to pronounce basic nouns and adjectives and clearly never heard a Yorkshire accent before which detracts from the story as set mostly in Yorkshire.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2020

Charming narration.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2020

Nice book. The narrator was amazing to listen.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2020

Great story Ashley Jane as the narrator stumbles over some of the words and can't quite get the and it sounded as if she was in a cafe which was very off putting

Profile Avatar Jolanta R. Jul 2019

One of my favorite childhood books. I loved the narrator!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2019

This book has a great story line. The narrator's accent was often difficult to understand.

Profile Avatar Rod M. Jun 2019

Great story. "Mrstres. Mary quite contrary how does your garden grow......" I really enjoyed the reader too.

Profile Avatar Evelyn P. Jun 2018

I read this book as a child and I have always remembered it. I love the story! The narrator was not good though, a great pity!

Profile Avatar Ruth P Jul 2017

My 9-year-old granddaughter and I listened to this recording together, and loved it. We liked the chapter divisions because we could stop and talk about what was going on, and decide whether to go on or not. We chose this narrator over several others, and think she did a fine job. I had tried to read the book aloud myself but the Yorkshire accent was very difficult. The audio was a big relief!

Profile Avatar Rachel Oliver Mar 2017

I love the book and loved the narrator too, that is saying something with the free books as often the narration is very average.

Profile Avatar Heather O\'Leary Jun 2016

I so enjoyed listening this book. The narrator is sweet and has a way with the dialect. I also liked that the chapter interruptions were shorter than usual. Much nicer to hear.

Profile Avatar Sarah Schultz May 2016

Loved the narrator and have read the book since being a kid it was nice to listen to it.

Profile Avatar MARIA NAVARRO Jan 2016

This is one of my favorite stories!!! The narrator was great the only thing that bother me was the in between chapters interruptions.

Profile Avatar Pham Leonard Oct 2015

I loved this recording. Ashleigh Jane read with inflection and a knowledgeable use of dialect. I will look for her in the future as I purchase books.

Profile Avatar Michael Goshorn Jul 2015

The narrators natural command of the languages and dialects brought the characters alive. Narrator should rehearse a chapter before recording, but has a promising career in narration .

Profile Avatar Julie Fiedler Jan 2015

A story that I know that was told it in a way in which made me reimagine story

Profile Avatar Diana Franklin Sep 2014

I usually listen to books to go to sleep. My father used to tape the sound tracks of movies for for us to sleep to.(1965) This was such a joy to listen to, that I kept waking up

Profile Avatar Elizabeth Pedersen Sep 2014

Uplifting story about turning negative past into positive present. Narration a bit choppy in parts but miss Ashley's delightful accent and voice more than make up for it. Recorded volume played a little low on my device compared to previous audio.

Profile Avatar Wendy Mercado Aug 2014

Such a nice story and Ashleigh Jane is the perfect narrator.

Profile Avatar karen nevins Jul 2014

I never read this when I was younger, nor when I was older, out of prejudice against its popularity, thinking it had to be awful and maudlin. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. It actually brought a tear to my eye in the final scenes. The reader has a great voice - like being a small child having the story read by a loving sister.

Profile Avatar amanda rosenberger Jun 2014

I enjoyed the narrator's voice, Ashley Jane, after the first couple of paragraphs. She read rather quickly, which took me a minute or two to adjust to. Her accent is perfect for the story. She falters at times, like she has read so long she needs to take a breath. Also, there are times in the recording that you can hear other people talking in the background. But, I enjoyed her style, and would listen to her read again.

Profile Avatar Dayna Graham Mar 2014

The narrator doesn't read smoothly or cohesively in several instances.

Profile Avatar Victoria Beaumont Jan 2014

Very cute and sweet. Its a pleasent happy read especially the farther in you get. Truely adorable.
