I love the book. The narrator has a great voice. I still do not like the interruption between chapters.

Love this story; a classic! Narration was mostly good but had its moments where the narrator was distracted and at one point I heard someone in the background yell to her that dinner was done. Lol but overall it was done well enough.

A nice book, very queer book. Though I am a boy I still like A Little Princess by Francis Hogson Bernet.

The book is sweet. The children growing along with the garden is heartwarming. The narrator was perfect for this book. I enjoyed listening to her read.

I very much enjoyed this book! The narrator did a good job. Only a few times you could hear background noises. Overall great story and great reader!

Enjoyable listen. The narration of so many free books is very bad. They miss any variation in tone and emotion. This one is better than most, odd at times that it sounds like she is reading it at a cafe.

I enjoyed the book. It was very interesting story. The narration’s voice was good but background noise (buzz) at times was annoying.

This is a LibriVox audio and as such it isn’t as smooth as many others. On the plus side, it is the best I’ve heard to date. Less background noise, etc. The story is of course great, it’s a classic. It had been years since I read the book, so I really enjoyed listening to it again. I love how the unhappy people find a better life when they get involved with nature, reach out to others, etc. So many problems can be overcome if you look beyond your self. Great lesson for our times.

Book and the story are quite nice. The reader unfortunately is not so consistent and there are breaks in the flow. Also quite a lot of background noices at times - dishes clattering and children's voices can be heard.

Beautifully read although haltingly her voice was perfect for the story. Very pleased she was the only narrator

It wasn’t the best not for me can’t really get myself to finish it. I don’t really recommend it for people who don’t have the patience to sit around and listen to a 7 hour book and that’s not me.

This book was even BETTER than the movie which actually leaves out or changes important things. I remember this from childhood and I loved it then and now even more! The narrator does a superb job with reading, plus her accent is so great to listen to as well!

I noticed some parts were taken out. Why? It’s not offensive. That’s just the way people thought back then. That disappoints me a little. As far as the narrator, I understand that we’re getting this for free and aside from a bit of stumbling - I liked it very much. I even thought it was funny when you can hear someone (her mother?) say something like “That’s enough!”

For me, the narrator was perfect and made the book exponentially better. I can’t believe this is the work of a volunteer. Ashley Jane has the perfect accent, the perfect intonation. She transported me right into the novel and I felt I was really there. This version of The Secret Garden has been transformed from a classic into a work of art by such a spectacular match of narration and content.

Really enjoyed this book during my daily cononavirus walks. Narration was good, especiallythe Yorkshire accents!

Profile Avatar

Superb book. Narrator very poor, unable to pronounce basic nouns and adjectives and clearly never heard a Yorkshire accent before which detracts from the story as set mostly in Yorkshire.

Great story Ashley Jane as the narrator stumbles over some of the words and can't quite get the and it sounded as if she was in a cafe which was very off putting

I read this book as a child and I have always remembered it. I love the story! The narrator was not good though, a great pity!

My 9-year-old granddaughter and I listened to this recording together, and loved it. We liked the chapter divisions because we could stop and talk about what was going on, and decide whether to go on or not. We chose this narrator over several others, and think she did a fine job. I had tried to read the book aloud myself but the Yorkshire accent was very difficult. The audio was a big relief!

Profile Avatar
Rachel Oliver

I love the book and loved the narrator too, that is saying something with the free books as often the narration is very average.

Profile Avatar
Heather O\'Leary

I so enjoyed listening this book. The narrator is sweet and has a way with the dialect. I also liked that the chapter interruptions were shorter than usual. Much nicer to hear.

Profile Avatar
Sarah Schultz

Loved the narrator and have read the book since being a kid it was nice to listen to it.

Profile Avatar
MARIA NAVARRO

This is one of my favorite stories!!! The narrator was great the only thing that bother me was the in between chapters interruptions.

Profile Avatar
Pham Leonard

I loved this recording. Ashleigh Jane read with inflection and a knowledgeable use of dialect. I will look for her in the future as I purchase books.

Profile Avatar
Michael Goshorn

The narrators natural command of the languages and dialects brought the characters alive. Narrator should rehearse a chapter before recording, but has a promising career in narration .

Julie Fiedler

A story that I know that was told it in a way in which made me reimagine story

I usually listen to books to go to sleep. My father used to tape the sound tracks of movies for for us to sleep to.(1965) This was such a joy to listen to, that I kept waking up

Uplifting story about turning negative past into positive present. Narration a bit choppy in parts but miss Ashley's delightful accent and voice more than make up for it. Recorded volume played a little low on my device compared to previous audio.

Such a nice story and Ashleigh Jane is the perfect narrator.

I never read this when I was younger, nor when I was older, out of prejudice against its popularity, thinking it had to be awful and maudlin. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. It actually brought a tear to my eye in the final scenes. The reader has a great voice - like being a small child having the story read by a loving sister.

Profile Avatar

I enjoyed the narrator's voice, Ashley Jane, after the first couple of paragraphs. She read rather quickly, which took me a minute or two to adjust to. Her accent is perfect for the story. She falters at times, like she has read so long she needs to take a breath. Also, there are times in the recording that you can hear other people talking in the background. But, I enjoyed her style, and would listen to her read again.

Profile Avatar
Dayna Graham

The narrator doesn't read smoothly or cohesively in several instances.
