Unabridged Audiobook
One of the best love stories ever. Madeline Miller gave me a book hangover. I can't even start a new book yet; I'm still too in love... IT'S TOO SOON, PEOPLE! The narrator is a dream. I want him to read everything I listen to from now own. Sigh.
I won't lie, I honestly came into this for the gay porn. I left with the feels. Straight up feels.
I love this story as much as Achilles and Patroclus loves each other. Overall just a very beautiful love story between Achilles and Patroclus. I felt their pain as if I were my own. The narrator had a very soothing voice, and the words from the book prevented me to stop listening.
After finishing this, I feel empty. 5/5, would recommend.
Great book! The ending so frustrating I love it. I cared so deeply about the characters I just wanted to shake them to have them make the right decisions.
I have listened to this book multiple because it’s such a great book the narrator does a really good job highly recommend it !
omg. that’s all i really have in me to say.
Enjoyable, Unique perspective on a story told many times. The human touch and the deep emotions motivating every action made the book a great, relaxing read.
This book made me feel in love with Greek mythology all over again. And fell in love with gorgeous Achilles! I couldn't stop listening!! The love story is so beautiful, the narration flows flawlessly and it just keeps you glued to it, making you want to hear more and more... Loved this book!!
couldn't get past the depiction of adolescent sex.
I could not get enough of this novel. The narrator's voice takes you along Madeline Miller's unique and entrapping telling of the story of Achilles'. I fell in love with the characters time and time again and now find myself feeling that perfect emptiness one feels at the end of a particularly incredible book. A truly perfect balance of love and adventure.
Story dragged a bit. Didn’t finish it.
Heartwarming, gripping novel, and great performance from the narrator.
Narration is very well done. I just found the story to be too "sappy" what with all the moon-eyes and fawning. It distracted from what could have been a good saga.
Remarkable. Heart breaking. Fantastical.A must read for those who love a modern classic
For those that love ancient history this is a good take on the Trojan War.
Excellent narration. The story is beautifully written almost poetic, but had a good pace. I really enjoyed this book.
I can’t decide if I like this or Circe better, they’re both SO GOOD. Narration was amazing, lovely actor.
very good. very well written.
Told from the perspective of Patroclus, this recount of friendship and love between him and Achilles, where the Trojan War serves only as a backdrop, will leave you speechless.
Compelling tale of Achilles and Hector - the author pulls you into a wonderfully detailed retelling of this famous story in a fresh way - Great go to and narrator adds to the interest with just the right amount of conversational cadence - like your sitting around a campfire listening to him tell the story
one of the best love stories i’ve ever read
Beautiful from beginning to end
The story seemed good. Had lots of potential. The vocal quality was off. Lots of reverb or something. I thought it might be my device but I listened on different ones and same issue also couldn’t tell some characters from one another
Amazing!
This book is so good the ending was well done and I loved the detail of everything and the way things were described so well
very well narrated
Love love love it
IM GONNA CRYYGYGG!!!!
Absolutely beautiful story….enthralling from start to finish
Loved this story!
The book fell short of my expectations. I was expecting to a huge emotional ending but did not get that. Also it was very hard for me to want to continue to listen to the book. The narrator was great had a relaxing voice.
Best story ever the narrative really pulls you in
What a beautiful love story, It gave a an interest to find out more about Achilles
I felt Every emotion they had!! Love, frustration, knowing, not knowing , just do it my way!! Please!!
Recommended by a friend. Good book, gayer than I expected.
the narration. was great. Very well told. The story was different and I was not expecting a love story. Achilles was the greatest warrior of all time and the "love story" didn't click with my understanding of the times, neither in army life nor under battle conditions. These men especially Achilles were brutal KILLERS and playing patsy grab ass just doesn't fit the type of men under those conditions. Additionally Achilles personality changed from a sweet thoughtful and caring person into an arrogant self centered douche bag and Patroclus becomes a great warrior in 1 day killing the son of Zeus. I think this unique view could have been more consistent with the original story (the Iliad) and still showed a lifestyle/relationship quite common with men of that profession. I just doubt these hardened killers were so kissy faced. Also I did not like the intro because it gave no clue to this being a love story with so little factual history. I would not have purchased this book (knowing what I know, now that I have read it.)
A good, fast read. Enjoyable but Circe was better.
Great audio book. Interesting take on an old tale.
Really good book and interesting take on a very old Character
This book will build you up just to tear you apart, an absolute masterpiece! I feel like there’s a bit of a slow bump in the middle but it’s 100% worth working through. The Song of Achilles will stick with you for a very long time</3
Awesome
Beautifully read. Great story.
Great story and well narrated. It was hard to break away
Captivating story beautifully read. I will look for more titles by the author as well as the reader.
Absolutely enjoyed it!!!
different point of view of troy
This book wrecked me it was so beautiful. Make sure you’re in the headspace for weeks of emotions when you’re done with this book! Absolutely beautiful
What a beautiful book. I want to read it again and again! And the narrator couldn’t have been a more perfect choice. 10/10 would recommend
Recommend from book tok and must say not very impressed it’s very slow and my ADHD can’t sit through it
I believe it was the narrator that kept me intrigued. He did an amazing job!!
Probably one of the best books I've ever read.
I should have done more research before choosing. In addition to the homosexual relationship that I was not expecting and prefer not consume, the story is slow and the narrator monotone. Couldn’t do it.
Wonderful. Superb
An incredible adventure and the narrator does great voices!
One of the best books I’ve listened to and I go through at least a book a month for 3 years
This is an incredible story.
A beautiful and tragic, yet morally nuanced tale of love.
I read her second book, Circe, first, and I preferred it. I think I just find the lives of women and their untold stories more interesting than tales of men and war. This book was well-written, thoughtful, and a great LGBTQ+ take on a classic. Some choices at the end surprised me (I won't give spoilers) -- some in a confounding way and others in a positive way. Definitely a great book, I just think Circe is better. The narrator did a great job.
Absolutely incredible. Fascinating characters, beautiful writing. 10/10 recommend (though you might sob at the end!)
Fantastic book that fills the gaps in The Iliad
An amazingly beautiful love story. I also loved the narration. He did a brilliant job.
What a surprise. Excellent story and great narration. A great twist on one of the oldest stories ever written.
Wonderful narrator, gripping language, beautiful storytelling
Wonderful book, wonderful narrator. Nuanced, multi-layered, a keen study of human nature, as well as one of the most famous of the Greek heroes.
Amazing story
Interesting, but I didn't really think it was that well-written of a story. Didn't seem to offer how much new insight.
Disappointing story compared to the previous book by Madeline Miller, "Cerec". It is much more of a love story than the adventure I expected. The narrator is excellent.
Excellent story and narrator. Couldn’t stop listening at every chance I could
