Summary
The follow-up to My Brilliant Friend, The Story of a New Name continues the epic New York Times bestselling literary quartet that has inspired an HBO series, and returns us to the world of Lila and Elena, who grew up together in post-WWII Naples, Italy.

In The Story of a New Name, Lila has recently married and made her entrée into the family business; Elena, meanwhile, continues her studies and her exploration of the world beyond the neighborhood that she so often finds stifling. Marriage appears to have imprisoned Lila, and the pressure to excel is at times too much for Elena. Yet the two young women share a complex and evolving bond that is central to their emotional lives and a source of strength in the face of life’s challenges.

In these Neapolitan Novels, Elena Ferrante, “one of the great novelists of our time” (New York Times), gives us a poignant and universal story about friendship and belonging, a meditation on love and jealousy, freedom and commitment—at once a masterfully plotted page-turner and an intense, generous-hearted family saga.

Picking up right where the first book left off, starting this book was like resuming a treasured friendship. Some of the incidents related are harsh, but felt truthful to me. I find the narrator to be an ideal teller for this story and hope that will continue with the later books. She doesn't get in the way of the story by attempting to colour over an already vivid prose. For me, her voice reflects the writer's voice.

What a great continuation to My Brilliant Friend. I can’t wait to listen to the next book.

Great book, very much in line with the first in the series. In the end I wanted to know what happens next and so will clearly have to read the third. The narrator was good.

I liked this narrator, as she represented the Italian language and pronounciation well. A very entertaining story, making one feel as if these characters have become part of your family!

Good story, in places the translation is a bit repetitive. The narrator was bad and this spoiled the story for me. Partly the narrator tried to act when speaking but she only had 1 acting mode for men, 1 for women and 1 for children, this made everyone sound the same. It would be much better if the narrator just stuck to reading the story clearly and did not try to act out the carcters. I also found it irritating that she pronounced Italian names with great care and this disturbed the naturalness of the reading.

Tedious story. Aggravating to spend so much time with a narrator who is so devoid of integrity and self-awareness. Reader confuses reading with acting

I ignored my kids for two days with one ear bud in because I couldn't stop listening to the story of Lila and Elena. Beautifully written. It's like reliving your whole life emotionally. Narration is fantastic.
