Summary
The fourth installment of Bernard Cornwell’s New York Times bestselling series chronicling the epic saga of the making of England, “like Game of Thrones, but real” (The Observer, London)—the basis for The Last Kingdom, the hit television series.

The year is 885, and England is at peace, divided between the Danish kingdom to the north and the Saxon kingdom of Wessex in the south. Warrior by instinct and Viking by nature, Uhtred, the dispossessed son of a Northumbrian lord, has land, a wife and children—and a duty to King Alfred to hold the frontier on the Thames. But a dead man has risen, and new Vikings have invaded the decayed Roman city of London with dreams of conquering Wessex... with Uhtred’s help. Suddenly forced to weigh his oath to the king against the dangerous turning tide of shifting allegiances and deadly power struggles, Uhtred—Alfred’s sharpest sword—must now make the choice that will determine England’s future.

I wish Jonathan Keeble narrated throughout the series, he truly fits whom I'd imagine for the role.

Bernard Cornwell is an enchanting story teller and Jonathan Keeble is a spellbinding narrator. I wish Mr. Keeble narrated all of the books in the series - he is, by far, my favorite.

I've been listening (and purchasing) every Bernard Cornwell books. While I enjoy the books immensely, I only recently realized that it was mostly Jonathan Keeble the reader, that I liked soo much. He is unbelievable. Jamie Glover is way too whimpy sounding for the character, and John Lee is as monitone as they come, plus he must be anxious to get the book read and get a paycheck as he seems to rush through it. Why would the publisher not wait for Jonathan Keeble and pay him what he wants? Although, it seems every book in the series gets shorter and shorter. This book and this reader are great.

I truly enjoyed listening to this audiobook from beginning to end. The author does spin quite a tale that the narrator does an excellent job of bringing to life. I also love the ending, which I promise not to spoil. I so look forward to the next installment!
