Summary
From CWA Gold Dagger winner Mick Herron comes a shocking, twisted novel of psychological suspense about one woman's attempt to be better than ordinary Twenty-six-year-old Maggie Barnes is someone you would never look at twice. Living alone in a month-to-month sublet in the huge city of London, with no family but an estranged sister, no boyfriend or partner, and not much in the way of friends, Maggie is just the kind of person who could vanish from the face of the earth without anyone taking notice. Or just the kind of person MI5 needs to infiltrate the establishment and thwart an international plot that puts all of Britain at risk. Now one young woman has the chance to be a hero-if she can think quickly enough to stay alive.

I liked the first few chapters but then it became very annoying and repetitive. The characters are weak and I found it hard to sympathize with the main character. The ending was predictable and unfulfilling. The book’s saving grace was The narrator’s charming voice.

The synopsis only refers to the first 4 chapters. Then it takes a drastic turn. There are so many twists and turns in this book! Great story and the narrator was great too (even though I heard his stomach growl several times…)

I purchased this book using my free VIP credit. In all honesty, I probably would have been upset at myself for using a purchased credit. The book itself was a fairly easy read and the narrator did an awesome job! The storyline made me laugh in quite a few spots which was nice. I am glad I read it! It’s all about sibling intuition!

Not one of the best books I've ever listened to. Found myself easily distracted and not following the story. I couldn't even find the ambition to listen all the way to the end.

Book was just meh. I found myself not really listening to it and my mind being distracted, but the book wasn’t worth rewinding so I didn’t miss anything.

Predictable plot. Failed to hold my attention like a good suspense novel should. Narrator is excellent.

I loved the Mick Herron Slough House series, but found this one rather dark and dystopian.
