Summary
In the epic fifth installment in this “compulsively readable” (People) series, Galbraith’s “irresistible hero and heroine” (USA Today) take on the decades-old cold case of a missing doctor, one which may be their grisliest yet.

Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough—who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974.

Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one forty years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on. And Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention, as well as battling her own feelings about Strike.

As Strike and Robin investigate Margot’s disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with leads that include tarot cards, a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. And they learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly . . .

I absolutely love these books! J.K does an amazing job and is a fantastic author. The narrator is on point. He does a wonderful job being these characters to life. I highly recommend.

As usual this book was amazing. I would have never guessed who did it. The narrator did an amazing job. Just as good as the last 4 novels! What a story.... if there is to be another book I would be so happy! Please read this book and if you have not read the previous 4 I highly recommend them.!! They are excellent.

Great book and great narrator. My 2nd most favorite of Cormoran Strike series after "Career of Evil". Now, I believe in equal rights for every human beings regardless of their gender, race or religion and I believe JK Rowling is the same. If JKR is being burnt at the stake for picking a trans man as her antagonist then so should Thomas Harris for Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs.

Too Long and so convoluted! At my age, I need to go back each night and re-read the previous chapter to remember the cast of characters the plot! I am reading #6 now and hope Robin makes a move on Cormoran.

Galbraith (J. K. Rowlings) has an uncanny ability to spin out characters, scenes, an entire world. As a detective story, this is mediocre. But factor in the wonderful characters and how one is completely absorbed, and it's a wonderful book. I hated for it to end. The narrator is absolutely first rate, not only in allowing the characters' distinctiveness to emerge, but in helping them come to life.

Too much unnecessary plot. In the end felt manipulated.

She knows how to weave a tale. The killer is hard to see but when we know who it is we can see there were crumbs dropped all through the book. The narrator was amazing. Characters are so clearly defined. This guy bounces from male to female to elderly to teen with such ease. Very enjoyable listen.

Excellent book with lots of twists. Enjoyed the progression in the relationship between the two main characters too. Narrator is excellent too. All these books have been good. If you like the books, check out CB Strike series on Cinemax. I thought the casting is quite good. They did the first three books so far.
