Summary
In this New York Times bestseller, a single father discovers the true nature of unconditional love when a new chance at happiness turns his world upside down.At 32, Russell Green has it all: a stunning wife, a lovable six year-old daughter, a successful career as an advertising executive, and an expansive home in Charlotte. He is living the dream, and his marriage to the bewitching Vivian is at the center of it. But underneath the shiny surface of this perfect existence, fault lines are beginning to appear . . . and no one is more surprised than Russ when every aspect of the life he has taken for granted is turned upside down.
In a matter of months, Russ finds himself without a job or a wife, caring for his young daughter while struggling to adapt to a new and baffling reality. Throwing himself into the wilderness of single parenting, Russ embarks on a journey at once terrifying and rewarding -- one that will test his abilities and his emotional resources beyond anything he's ever imagined.
When a chance encounter with an old flame tempts him to take a chance on love again, he will navigate this new opportunity with trepidation and wonder. But with the loyal support of his parents, the wisdom of his older sister, Marge, and in the hard-won lessons of fatherhood, Russ will finally come to understand the true nature of unconditional love -- that it is a treasure to be bestowed, not earned.

I think the story was a little drawn out. Not the same as the other Sparks books, however, very well written. The narrator was great! There was random music that would start at times, and I found that to be distracting to the story.

Although the story was extremely predictable, it still made me think about how I treat my friends and family. It gave me a sense of how important my actions and words are to those around me. The narrator did an exceptional job!

I normally like this author but this book is so depressing and unlike his others. Nobody likes a whiner man who just won’t stop! I’m very disappointed with this book, I don’t even want to finish it at this point. Ugh

This may be one of the most frustrating stories I have read lately. The main characters, with the complete toad of a wife and the meek husband that will lay down and never defend himself infuriated me. I suppose it’s a sign of the times where men have become mild and weak and women have become bulls in china shops. I loved the other characters, especially the sister, and the children made me laugh. The narrator was great. I’ve read this author a lot and will continue to do so but we need some testosterone put back in the male characters.

A bit different from his other books, but the same romantic/dramatic predictability of his other books. I did enjoy it, but the music in parts was FAR too loud. It was quite a touching story

This is one of my least favorite Nicholas Sparks books. It ended too fast and it felt like it cut off. I found the music that played drowned out the narrator and it was too loud.

Have listened to this one several times. While it is a little predictable it was a fun read. Would recommend!

Narrator was good but I found the book to be slow. Not one of his best.

I chose this book bescause my granddaughter was reading it & enjoyes his books. He is not one of my favorite authors. He’s a little maudlin & predictibable for my taste, but I did enjoy “The Notebook”. “Two by Two” was a little slow at first and fairly predictable. I did like the way the characters were developed and the ending. About what I’ve come to expect from SPARKS.

SPOILER ALERT IN REVIEW Please take my advice! Do not read or download this book! It is terrible! As other reviews have said it is easy to guess whats going to happen it was not written very well and feels like it was rushed. Okay so to my review I will keep it short and to the point but there will be some spoilers so do not continue reading if you want to be surprised. Still reading? Ok good to go don't complain you were warned. The book starts with the main character who obviously is a moron and has no balls. His wife treats him like crap and he still says yes ma'am instead of asking for his balls back. She obviously has no respect for the guy and obviously wants a real man. From the get go you know whats going to happen. She inevitably cheats and gets with a real man. He's heart broken which I understand. Divorce most definitely sucks. His dike sister and her lesbian lover console him and basically his butch sister has more balls then he does. The whole story he is either reminiscing of the past or he's complaining or describing clothes and food and his day. It is so boring! When he finally starts to get traction the book is almost over. It ends and his gay sister dies he has to move to Atlanta so he can see his daughter because that was the only way to get joint custody and he hooks up with his ex girlfriend that he cheated on. The epilogue was better then the whole book. Its a joke! Do not read this! I could write something better than this as an 8th grader! I generally would say he writes decent stories if your into that mushy crap. I however only wanted to hear this story as I thought it was about a father and a daughter growing a bond together because I have a wonderful daughter that I love and have enjoyed watching grow. This story missed its mark and left a bad taste for me. It talks more about his B of a wife and his sister then it does his daughter.

I didn’t want to stop listening to the book, it was hard for me to turn it off at times. It was a beautiful story that mirrored real life situations that people struggle with: work, family, relationships, children, and loss. Yet it showed how faith, love and the support of family and true friends can help you get thru those tuff times. It showed how emotional and difficult it can be to let go of people we love that aren't for us, job stress/worries, loss of material things, and the fear/courage of stepping out on your own. That said I really love how it ended letting people see that through it all there is hope and positive outcomes when you step out on the other side of the storm. I will definitely recommend this book to others. It's a powerful book that shows both the negative and positive events in life and the attitudes/ways people handle it. I'll most likely listen to it again which is something I've never done before whether I've read the book or listened to a book. Once has always been enough for me.

This was my first book by this author. Enjoyed the later portion of the book. Initially I was a bit disappointed in the storyline but it got better towards the end. Will consider another purchase.

The book was not that exciting. The guy in the book sounds very weak and a total coward.

Looking at prior reviews, I can only say to each his own. I enjoyed the book and story line. I found myself looking forward to picking up my headphones and continuing where I left off.

I wish the story had more to it. How can I put into words the many things I feel for this book? I'm mad, sad, annoyed, and glad. Yeah, those words should do.

I was quite disappointed to find that so many of the previous reviews were accurate. Many times I don't agree with reviews and I should have listened. I did find the book boring, one dimensional, very predictable, and left hoping for more. It's not the typical book written by Sparks so I was hoping that a new direction was going to give us more as a reader. I did enjoy seeing the changes with the relationships of Russ and London, and then with Marge and her father. Polar opposite relationships that were able to grow in their own way. I really disliked the way the book was wrapped up. It feels as though the story was drawn out and came to a slamming halt and everything thrown into the epilogue. I wish I hadn't paid for it, but that's exactly why I finished it.

Great narrator. Slow dull and emotion-free book, I expected more from the author. Even though, it's a good first listen for those who are starting in audiobooks.

A really boring book. I was expecting a mushy love story and this certainly didn't deliver. I also didn't like either of the main characters. I don't see the point of this book at all. I was waiting for something to happen and it never did. Although I did like the narrators voice.

I did not like this book. Spark's male characters are always so needy until some woman "saves" them. The one they've pined for for years. Ugh. I only got this because I thought the person traveling with me might like it. It was boring and predictable. The female voices were horrible.

Very good. Twist ending. Anyone struggling with what life gives them this is a must ready to remind you of what life truly is about family, love, and our children!

This was my first audiobook and I enjoyed it more than I expected. The narrator did an excellent job switching from character to character which I could never do. I also related to this book making it even more enjoyable. I recommend this book to a both single mom's and dad's. This needs to be made into a movie.
