Praise for The Vampire Lestat

“Frightening, sensual . . . Anne Rice will live on through the ages of literature. . . . To read her is to become giddy as if spinning through the mind of time, to become lightheaded as if our blood is slowly being drained away.”—San Francisco Chronicle

“Fiercely ambitious, nothing less than a complete unnatural history of vampires.”—The Village Voice

“Brilliant . . . its undead characters are utterly alive.”—The New York Times Book Review

“Luxuriantly created and richly told.”—The Cleveland Plain Dealer

Anne Rice mastered the history of vampire genre decades before other authors dared to opposed her genre and intertwining stories of each vampire and the witches who were another series all together. I would say that very few authors else had really tackled this particular genre aside from Bram Bram Stoker's Dracula, which is only like the Lestat lost, both seeking redemption fighting for their lost humanity and the lust of what they are. that struggle to be a vampire end to miss humanity is prominent in all of the vampire chronicles. This particular book is exciting and wonderful response to the first book Interview with a bei have disappointed me in any way. she mastered the genre of vampire fantasy far before anyone else. is she made them likable horrific and romantic and each individual needed their own story and the stories laid out before them. I was so enthralled when this book it came out before the chronicles as it gave us the beginning of Lestat's character alive too "damned." Once started it's difficult to stop with each chronical asks and answers more.

Anne Rice seems to have written this novel in a kind of fugue state, with words flowing fast and free, expanding without apparent effort. It's a long novel, dripping with Gothic imagery and of course sexual tension. A literary take on the vampiric myth that rarely taxes your attention, you'll enjoy the long read by a narrator who is quite pleasant to listen to, though occasionally you will be confused who is speaking, for each of the characters' voices sound largely the same. Perhaps some of the novel's loquaciousness could have been edited, but you'd be hard pressed to argue against the beauty in many long passages. Rice is a writer of great power, and this book hardly feels worked over, as if you have it in its original form, fresh from the author's mind. Beautiful, powerful, long-winded, exhausting, profound: amazing for a novel about vampires! Enjoy it, they don't make them like this any more.

Narrator really put a lot of gusto into it. I especially love when he imitates the women characters, cause they all sound like old lady who’s smoked 5 packs of cigs everyday

I loved much about the first, it was a historical vampire novel. However this is only a vampire novel and the modern day setting lost my interest quickly

I love the story of Lestat, the Brat Prince. He IS Anne Rice. Simon Vance is perfect. He maintains everyone's faint accents throughout and had a very pleasant toned voice.

Excellent narrator BUT, he does have a wide range of volume, so sometimes it gets veeery quiet, and I have to turn it way up, and then it gets super loud and I need to turn it down again, listening on speakers.
