Summary
Medical student Amy Brenner is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward. Amy has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit. There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. Reasons nobody can ever find out. And as the hours tick by, Amy grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening within these tightly secured walls. When patients and staff start to vanish without a trace, it becomes clear that everyone on the unit is in grave danger. Amy’s worst nightmare was spending the night on Ward D. And now she might never escape.

The narrator did good. No issues there. The plot was good and the ending sorta twisty, but the main character wore me out. She’s pretty whiny and that started to really grate on my nerves about 1/3 of the way in. Don’t regret purchasing, but wouldn’t listen to it if you’re a little grouchy.

The main character,Amy, was immature and down right dumb The repetitiveness of her stupid thoughts will drive anyone reading this insane. And the idea that she wanted to be a doctor made no sense because she certainly didn’t have the brain of piss ant. I just want to forget I ever read this book.

This Author has a creative mind anyone can appreciate. I have a hard time re reading books because my mind can figure things out pretty quick and I have a great memory. But her books. I feel like I have never read a mystery book. It's amazing. As soon as I put my finger on what is going on. The book laughs at me and says here's another twist. I get a little motion sickness there is that many turns. The only time I have ever loved to be in that kinda state. The last chapters always blow my mind. This book did not disappoint. And the narrator was really good. I hate when robots read there's no heart no different emotions. This narrator was good.

Interesting and kept me listening. Psych thriller on psych ward. I wonder the wisdom of books that completely misrepresentation mental health hospitals when (as a society) we are trying to encourage people to seek help (including hospitals) for mental health.

Very repetitive and immature writing at times. If you ever forget how the main character’s ex boyfriend broke up with her, never fear. You’ll be retold about 30 times in the first half of the book. The narrator seems to stress some words incorrectly or at least is unable to show nuanced emotions through her tone. Overall not worth the time.

The worst book I’ve read in years. This felt like it was written for a twelve year old girl. The main character is an insult to women in general but especially women in medicine. She’s whiny, wimpy and dumb. The numerous breaches of patient confidentiality were so absurd. It was slow, painful and boring. The “twists” were predictable. I’m a big fan of McFadden but this book was awful.

Superb stuff. I picked this book at random. And so glad I did. The narrator gave it extra depth.

Awful. As others have said, the central character is, at best, annoying and immature. The dialogue, particularly at the start of track 59 encapsulates how bad it is. The script wouldn’t be out of place in Scooby Doo. Avoid.

Narrator was great! Book was great! I didn’t see the twist coming. I knew there would be one but didn’t figure it out.

I had a hard time suspending my belief in the real world for this book to feel plausible. The ending was almost satisfactory, but I don't think I would recommend the book to anyone.

“Locked room” mysteries aren’t my favorite, but Freida McFadden makes it work. Fabulous twist in the last few minutes.

Easy listen for the most part. I felt like it was predictable towards the end when the drama really picked up. i wish the main character didn't whine so much, an absolute nervous wreck. if you want a casual background book this is a good one but it wasn't mind-blowing or frightening. I think the author did well with her ending and expanding on the main character the way she did. overall it felt teen fiction with an unrealistic psych ward twist.

The beginning of the book was really strong and kept me engaged though as the story progressed it became cringe and corny.

Did not like it at all. It just dragged on and on and at times was very repetitive. Also the narrator was very annoying to me. She just doesn’t write with any depth. Very surface level stiff and predictable.

Hated how the narrator said schizophre(e)nia, but otherwise a fine novel. More tolerable than The Teacher, but I still don't really understand why Freida Mcfadden is such a big hit.
