Unabridged Audiobook
Really enjoy reading Winston Churchill. The insight to the period and history is fascinating and well worth reading.
Is it the most enjoyable read? Certainly not. It’s very detailed and jumps from one narrative to the next as events unfold. But for the WWII aficionados it’s the ultimate source. Written in period in first person by someone who was there making the tough calls. Overall, it’s an astonishing work of historical literature and indicative of the immense mental capacity of the author.
I suspect that many Churchill fans have described this as trash because they just read the title. It would be more accurate to name it, ‘Winston Churchill, and his Times’ leaving out the ‘crimes’ word. People can read what is an excellent piece of work, well researched and presented, and leave them to draw their own conclusions without the title prompt. I found it quite sympathetic to Winston’s felonies, seeing him as a child of his times and his class.
Author brings to light the beliefs and behaviour of Winston Churchill of the British Establishment. Churchill had indeed a chequered history which gained him power as a Prime Minister who used the War to achieve his notoriety.
