Unabridged Audiobook
Henry's quest to find love with all the debauchery in-between. I've heard Buk speak, and the narrator does a good job imitating cadence and inflection. As a woman, I was intrigued enough to listen after hearing all the controversy. This is more intense and depressing journey than the average man probably makes to find a mate. Given the character and the author's background, it isn't shocking. It's sad and real, just like life.
Narrator was okay, I felt like he did a pretty good job of sounding like the author would have. I gave it 4 stars because I am just trying to figure out the point of the book. It seems like the author is just recalling his sexual rendezvous in a very vulgar way, without a point to any of it really. I was influenced to read it by a girl saying this helped her see how men view women, but I didn’t feel that way. Seemed like it was just a story about an alcoholic, dirty old man’s experiences, with saying “cunt” a lot. Overall, it’s fine if you just want to listen to vulgar stories, but no real depth to the book.
Enjoyed more than first read in1978. There’s a little Henry in us all. I hope so.
Terrible. Literally painful to hear.
