Unabridged Audiobook
This narrative paints a clear picture of an army career on the Frontier areas of America. Very well written…
I did enjoy listening to this and the insights it gives into the conditions on the frontier during the late 1800's. I did become quite uneasy with the authors "white privilege" attitude that seemed to grow with each year she was in the various military posts. Clearly blacks, Chinese, and Native Americans were in a class far below hers. Unfortunately I don't doubt that this was a prevailing attitude during those times. It is interesting to contrast this book to those written by the Sioux Charles Eastman, some of which are available through Audiobooks. The narrator does do a good job and is fairly easy to listen to. She does better with this book than with others, but I still cringe with her use of "warsh" instead of "wash", "Warshington" instead of "Washington", etc.
This is such an interesting view of the time. Some of the observations would not be considered PC in the 21st century but this the reality of the post civil war years. Sue Anderson is one of my favourite narrators and does an excellent job with this book. she is the one, I feel, who bring this book to life. Well worth a listen.
