Abridged Audiobook
Even though this book was written over 100 years ago, it is still a timely story. The main character is utterly powerless and doesn't know how to take control of her own destiny, even when she desires to change it. Although many things have changed in the past 110 years, people still feel that they are imprisoned by their life circumstances. Despite the suggestion of the title, this is not a cheerful book and one doesn't walk away from the story with any enlightenment.
I loved this book. It does have some long-winded parts, but it would appeal to many women today, I believe.
This book started out hard to follow, kept jumping from person to person and no ones character was explained very well. This could have been a good book about the struggle for women who were free thinkers in this time frame. Insted the author choose to make it just another maudling tale of "can't live this life, but am to lazy to fix it" and the main charachter takes the easy way out..skip it..
