Summary
Who is Sherlock Holmes?

We are 40 years into the future, and London is a city in decay. John Watson has returned from medical service in the war in Afghanistan and lives by himself in a run-down part of town. On his way home from work, he stumbles upon a beaten man in the street – unconscious and completely naked. His chances of survival are minimal.

The same evening, a passenger plane crashes in Richmond Park. There are several hundred victims, and Watson and the mysterious man are left to their own devices.

When the man wakes up the following day, he has no memory of who he is or where he came from but reveals excellent detection skills. This is the start of a mystery that unravels rapidly with one burning question at its core.

Can he solve the mystery of himself?

The Red Circle, the first instalment in the upcoming trilogy Becoming Sherlock by international bestseller Anthony Horowitz (known for Midsomer murders, Foyle's war, Alex Rider, and Hawthorne) and Sarah J. Naughton. Story development by Søren Vestergaard.

I love Sherlock Holmes so completely enjoyed it. I liked how the authors cleverly updated it to the 21st century along with setting the stage on how the characters become involved with each other. Very enjoyable. I can't wait for the next book.

great narration

This book is a great listen! I really enjoy it. The narrator was excellent. Yes I would recommend this book to all ages. No crazy sex , No gory details. A well written story bringing Holmes to today’s time line. I’ll read more from this author! Thank you for a great listen!

Excellent book! If you are a fan of the BBC series Sherlock, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, you will like this magnificent reinterpretation of Sir Conan Doyle's beloved characters. Did not want it to end! Narration was top notch!

Clever, intriguing, imaginative. Considering it is written in tandem with Sarah Naughton it is surprisingly complete and well constructed

It took me while to get comfortable with the odd environment of the story. A future with Victorian overtones. But a novel concept and quite gripping. Great narration with excellent voice characterisation.

Starts a little slow in providing the objectives of the story. Once the Sherlock character becomes apparent, the story takes shape and gets interesting. We then are working with the characters to figure out the who, what, when, where, and why, which is the best part of the book. The author does a great job characterizing Dr. Watson, and less so for Sherlock, but I think that's on purpose, since this is #1 in this storyline. The narrator uses his British accent and different voices for the characters, which made the story more enjoyable for me.

it is set in a dystopian London. Think steam punk meets murder and other mysteries. The story was engaging character wise but the mystery part was not that surprising or believable. It took me some time to get used to the narrator. Bit of a mid Atlantic accent and soft/slow narration that was sending me to sleep. But it was still an engaging listen.

I found it VERY entertaining! Some confusion for me on the time represented, one minute they are using computers and the next an oil lamp in the parlor. Wasn’t Mycroft Holmes a brother in the original story? Those kind of things were interrupting. Loved the narrator!

This was a very pleasant surprise from my VIP monthly selection. I will definitely try the second book in the trilogy based on how much I enjoyed this fast moving story.

Interesting story, especially how it was updated to the future what seems to be pretty realistic already now.

I love anything and everything by Anthony Horowitz … add Sherlock Holmes and it has to be a winner! Interesting premiss, bringing Sherlock into a frighteningly plausible future. I only gave it 4 stars because I found it a bit hard to follow and got lost in the myriad of characters. The narrator was terrific and I’m looking forward to the next installment!

Really great. Got it as a vip credit, now purchasing the second one. Great narrator, quick but intricate story that draws you in, and really interesting new-yet-not setting. Glad to be introduced to these authors. More central female characters would have been nice but nothing’s perfect.

Excellent and entertaining listen! Being a Sherlock Holmes fan and not knowing how he actually got started in the detective business with very little background on his younger years, this book really set the tone and believability in his past life-story. The characters were well developed and interesting to learn about and the narrator was absolutely fabulous! I can't wait for a sequel to be released.

Fun steampunk take on Sherlock Holmes set in London in the near future. Interesting twist on the backstory of Holmes, with Watson a full character. Highly recommend.

There are so many Sherlock ‘universes’ it’s beginning to feel like Spider-Man . I’m in two minds whether it’s right to recreate from these classics but I can’t deny Horowitz has done a fantastic job as usual and this is a thoroughly good listen with excellent narration.
