Summary
Mack might be, to all intents and purposes, a normal looking human, but she lives with a pack of shapeshifters in Cornwall in rural England after being dumped there by her mother when she was just a young child. She desperately wants to be accepted by her surrogate family, not least because a lot of them hate her for merely being human, but for some reason her blood just won't allow the transformation to occur. With a terrible temper to match her fiery red hair, Mack is extraordinarily useful in a fight, and when her pack alpha is brutally and abruptly murdered, she swears vengeance. Unfortunately, his murder also draws in the Brethren—the leaders of the shapeshifter world—who will slaughter everyone in Mack's small rural pack if they discover her true identity. Unfortunately Corrigan, the green-eyed muscle-bound Lord Alpha of the Brethren, doesn't let much slip by him...

I had huge issues with the main character. She is rude and judgmental to almost everyone, arrogant that she only knows what’s best, and honestly is a bit dim at times. Her only saving grace is she cares about her friends and sacrifices a lot. I read from the other reviewers her temper and attitude gets worse as the series progresses. I do not know if I can continue with the series which is a shame because I would love to see what happens with Corrigan. But why he would want her, who knows. It also has the start of a good story.

Captured my attention, on book 2 now. Yes, main character has a short temper / anger issues. However, it’s clear there is a driver for this - we have some insight to this by the end of the book. She truly cares for others and protects others, a much more important personality trait. There is space for character development and information to be uncovered.

The storyline was entertaining and imaginative. I laughed out loud at parts. The narrator unfortunately sounds like a digital assistant. I really enjoyed all 5 books. Really well written. I'll definitely be following the author.

I wanted a book that would be a good entertainment, easy to listen while I'm working. I think this book is a perfect mix of fantasy and easy-to-follow mystery novel. It's not a life changer, but I might gladly read the rest of the series.
