Summary
“One of my favorite authors.”—Colleen Hoover

An insightful, delightful, instant #1 New York Times bestseller from the author of Beach Read and People We Meet on Vacation.

One summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didn't see coming...

Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute.

If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves.

I just wanted it to be over. Super cringey. Very cheesy. Too long.

LOVE this book! Interesting characters, lots of humor, and of course, excellent love story. Julia Whelan is amazing narrating, as usual.

Great listen and book! The story, especially the humor is smart, with the banter between characters well written. The narrator, Julia, is by far my favorite of all! I would listen to any book she reads!

This is the first book I've read by this author, but I do plan to pick up another one. I enjoyed her style and humor and hope that Book Lovers isn't just a copy-cat story of the other books she's written because I want to see how wide she can spread her humor and style. This story was somewhat original for a romance novel and that made it fun for me to read, plus, it was a compelling story that I just wanted to hide in a closet to listen so that no one would try to talk to me while I listened. Also, Julia Whelan is my favorite narrator so it made the book that much greater to enjoy. I love romance with wit and humor and this certainly delivered!

I don’t do Hallmark movies and I certainly don’t want to read a Hallmark book. Awful. Not my cup of tea.

Eh, it was fine. Kind of too predictable and I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Julia Whelan who reads TONS of books and her dude voice kind of irritates me so…yeah it was just okay.

I think if I was reading this book, it would have been a DNF. The narrator is excellent. The story was good, just not great.

This book is absolute trash. It’s the cheesiest, most cringy book I’ve read since I was in like 8th grade. No spoilers or anything, but the whole books is basically three extremely immature characters; two sisters (one is the protagonist) who act and talk to each other like they’re 10 year old stuck up VSCO girls, and then the two main characters who just snipe at each other for hundreds of pages on end. Literally every conversation is just sappy and cheesy sarcasm and passive aggressive passes at each other. Not sure if it’s supposed to come off as flirtatious, but it’s really just incessantly annoying, immature and made my ears bleed (I listened to the audiobook. If I’d had a physical copy I would’ve burned it and flushed the ashes down the toilet). The main characters are both book editors, If Emily Henry spent quadrupole the amount of time as the two protagonists editing the book, it still wouldn’t be enough to make it not absolutely SUCK. If you want a mind numbing, stereotypical summer romance book with no substance, then read or listen to this book at your own discretion.

I’m going to sound like a grouch, just saying beforehand. This book drive me crazy. It was a good 30% too long. There were way too many repetitive descriptions of the main character getting aroused over the guy. After a while it just got irritating. One of my least favorite things, both in the real world and in fiction- doing something naughty on a bet (skinny dipping, in this case), then acting surprised when it leads to something. “Hey I’m just swimming naked in the dark in front of you to fulfill a bet - what are you doing thinking I’m into you?!) I love a good metaphor as much as anyone. It’s like icy tea in a wet glass on a hot day. But to describe virtually every thought and emotion, big or small, in the book this way? It’s like swallowing a snow ball full of tiny knives, and makes my head hurt as if badgers are playing volleyball in my skull (you get the idea…). Lastly, I found the protagonist’s martyr complex extremely annoying. And she kept it up after her sister explicitly asked her to stop. I could only keep going because I will apparently listen to Julia Whelan read absolutely anything (she’s the best!).

I loved this book! I especially liked the dialog between the main characters. Very snappy and humorous and clever. Plus, the writing is excellent too. The story was a bit different, but somewhat unpredictable. I only put 5 stars on books I will listen to again and this one is definitely on the list. I thought the narrator had the right voice too and did a good job of differentiating the voices too. The narrator added a lot by her inflection too. Very good!!!

This book is Laugh out loud funny. The narrator of the audio book did a great job. I listened to this book in 2 days. I didn't care for the way Libby called her sister "sissy" but other than that it was so cute and funny.
