Unabridged Audiobook
I love Ted Dekker and how he can show me the love of Christ.
I didn't even finish it. I had about an hour left and gave up. I've quit books just cause it didn't hold my attention, or it wasn't for me. And that's fine. But I just got frustrated with this book to the point of quitting. So why 2 stars? Well, the first 7 hours were pretty good. Went in a direction I wasn't expecting, but was working pretty well. The prose isn't the most amazing thing, but I never had a problem with it. Could have used a few more horror movements, but the ones that were there were pretty good. If someone is interesting in horror based around religious cults, it's pretty good. The next thing is not really a pro or a con, as much as I do just want to say this is a christian book. It does have a religious message to it. As an atheist, I am fine with that, I just wasn't expecting it. It is a good message, so that didn't really bother me. So why stop listening? The message at the end was basically just the simple dark and light, fear and bravery, love and hatred thing. Not to had, right? Imagine listening to someone just say that over and over again for 3 hours. "Dark is not light so you should seek light because darkness cannot survive in light because light is not darkness because of it was then it wouldn't be light which you should seek instead because it is better than darkness which is not light because light is good because it's where darkness cannot live" It's that. For almost 3 hours. I wish I was exagerating. You have little pickets where it stops, and then the story continues, and I would enjoy it again... ONLY FOR IT TO GO BACK ON ANOTHER RANT ABOUT DARK AND LIGHT. I finally broke and just deleted it. To say the message in this was hamfisted would be a compliment for this book.
I didn't realize it was a religious book until I got a little more than half way through it. It did get somewhat carried away with religion the closer it got to the end. I did enjoy it, trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I will probably listen to it again in the future.
