Her Heartless Savior

Having enjoyed the first book in the series I was looking forward to listening to this one. It is technically a complete story but to better understand the relationships I would advise that you either read or listen to Her Ruthless Warrior first. We met Alessandro in the previous book, when he tried to convince Violet, his half-sister to part from Hoka and return to Chicago with him. This story tells how Alessandro met his match in the fiery redhead Lily whom he hired as his assistant. Lily is a wonderfully strong outspoken character with a temper to match her fiery hair, she's suffered so much before meeting Alessandro, losing her twin and the man she thought loved her as well as nearly dying in the accident which took her twin's life. They met for the first time when she was asked to attend an interview for the position of assistant to Alessandro. But having waited three hours to be seen when she was told by his secretary that he didn't have time to see her she barged into his office and gave him what for! The result was that she was told to report for work! For eighteen months she has worked hard, been an asset to his business and put up with his moods. She's made herself invaluable to him, but the higher-ups fear that maybe she knows too much when in fact she's clueless about his involvement in the mafia world or that he rules Chicago for them. Then she witnesses something she shouldn’t and Alessandro, who so far has denied how much she is beginning to mean to him, decides that he has no choice but to take her to his private island to keep her safe. Until it can be proven that she's not a threat to the Mafia. So he kidnaps her! But when she tells him what she discovered he knows that she'll not be safe until he can uncover the traitor in his organisation. Once on his private island, she's shocked to meet Pietro his 10-year-old who quickly wins her heart. Pietro is disabled but determined to not appear broken that's something Lily can relate to, as she still suffers from the effects of the injury suffered in the accident years before. Alessandro and Lily’s journey was far from smooth, at times his cold-heartedness and angry words wounded her. But his one redeeming quality was his love for his son who was beginning to mean the world to her too. Their story is full of action, danger, drama, intrigue, betrayal and oh so many twists and turns I didn't see coming. But it's also a story of growing love, and chemistry that's palpable, and of loyalty and....... well listen for yourself, I've said enough. The narration is by Summer Roberts and Brian Nishii who do an incredible job of bring all the characters to life I will say I loved the epilogue!
