Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the National Book Award–winning author of Stamped from the Beginning comes a “groundbreaking” (Time) approach to understanding and uprooting racism and inequality in our society and in ourselves—now updated, with a new preface.

“The most courageous book to date on the problem of race in the Western mind.”—The New York Times

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR—The New York Times Book Review, Time, NPR, The Washington Post, Shelf Awareness, Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews

Antiracism is a transformative concept that reorients and reenergizes the conversation about racism—and, even more fundamentally, points us toward liberating new ways of thinking about ourselves and each other. At its core, racism is a powerful system that creates false hierarchies of human value; its warped logic extends beyond race, from the way we regard people of different ethnicities or skin colors to the way we treat people of different sexes, gender identities, and body types. Racism intersects with class and culture and geography and even changes the way we see and value ourselves. In How to Be an Antiracist, Kendi takes readers through a widening circle of antiracist ideas—from the most basic concepts to visionary possibilities—that will help readers see all forms of racism clearly, understand their poisonous consequences, and work to oppose them in our systems and in ourselves.

Kendi weaves an electrifying combination of ethics, history, law, and science with his own personal story of awakening to antiracism. This is an essential work for anyone who wants to go beyond the awareness of racism to the next step: contributing to the formation of a just and equitable society.

This needs to be required reading for every student, judge, politician, or any elected official. Phenomenal work. As a psychologist, I was particularly impressed with the author's modeling of introspection, vulnerability, and his own "doing the work."

The narrator pauses in odd locations and puts inflection where I wouldn't expect it. sometimes i have to rewind, get the wording and pronounce it in a manner I'm used to in order to understand. His voice itself its great.

Race baiting at it's finest. In a political climate that yearns for clarity, understanding and healing, Kendi presents the reader with one lens to view the world: "anti-racist" or racisct. Kendi then expects the reader to grapple with this binary and see racism in literally every aspect of human interaction and government policy. There is nothing new here. In fact, this is overwrought, played out propaganda, similar to other "anti racist" books making the rounds these days.

Excellent primer on the history of racism and author defines and compares racism and anti-racism. Author is the narrator and speaks in a calm neutral tone to explain his points without making the reader feel guilty or defensive. I truly enjoyed and recommend this book.

wonderful to have the authors voice packed with facts we need and emotional responses to them we really need

I LOVE this book. I feel more informed, and agreed with pretty much everything Ibram X Kendi had to say that wasn't already a fact. I wish this book was required reading for all businesses and schools. I think sharing the vulnerability of his journey is brave and honest. I hope many get inspired to do the same self investigation.

Great flow.

This book really comes down to one thing, what color is your skin. If you are skin pigment is "white" you have been a racist your whole life and it is time to repent and pay reparations. If you are "black", look how you are a victim and how you have overcome the white man's world. The antiracist, is about being racist. Ibram is a huge proponent of BLM and cheers on destruction of all things "white", but will conveniently leave out facts and figures. This a joke of a book and those who peddle it are champions of a societal breakdown.

Really important book

Some fresh thinking polluted by Marxist inspired victim mentality. Read cautiously.

I started reading this when it first came out. I couldn't finish it. I donated the book to my local library. I figured someone would like its filter shaded "information".

Awful pretentious & definitely in the vein of Marxism

A very heartwarming story.

Let me start by saying that the book and content are excellent. Additionally, when a book is non-fiction and/or memoir, I prefer to hear it in the author’s own voice. However, in the case of this book, I am not enjoying listening to the author read his own story. I have heard podcasts and seen videos where Dr. Kendi spoke and he was quite engaging. I’m finding his style of reading choppy and extremely distracting. I purchased a hardcover copy and I am reading it. I really wish I could get a refund on this purchase.
