Summary
A sharp and scintillating summer novel that will make readers laugh out loud and cry happy tears from the New York Times bestselling author of Yours Truly. Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

Emma hadn't planned that her next assignment as a traveling nurse would be in Minnesota, but she and her best friend agree that dating Justin is too good of an opportunity to pass up, especially when they get to rent an adorable cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka.

It's supposed to be a quick fling, just for the summer. But when Emma's toxic mother shows up and Justin has to assume guardianship of his three siblings, they're suddenly navigating a lot more than they expected--including catching real feelings for each other. What if this time Fate has actually brought the perfect pair together?

If you can only read one book a year, choose an Abby Jimenez book every time. From the MC’s to the intricately woven plots to her sense of humor to the inevitable happily ever afters, Abby is perfection. She chooses the best narrators for her books every time. You will thank me for choosing an Abby Jimenez book!

I laughed out loud and even cried. First audiobook to ever do that. I’ve went in extra walks, sat in my car, anything just to keep listening. This if my favorite of Jimmenz’s book. Her writing is warm, so incredibly smart, funny and just plain good. Narrators are fantastic l!!! I will also say that I always take something from her books, a life lesson of some sort. Appreciate that.

I love it that the author brings in Minnesota places in her books. Her “Easter eggs” are fun to spot. More specifically though this book sucked me in. I felt tense reading about the main character’s past. Whenever her mom was around I could feel the tension. I appreciate how she brings in serious topics, but also makes me laugh. Her books are so relatable. I love how this story winds up and that she brings in people we have met in other books. Another amazing read by Abby Jimenez!!

I have loved every single Abby Jimenez book…they’re all in my Reread Collection. When Just for the Summer came out, some reviews mentioned there were potential triggers that I was concerned could be difficult for me, so I was cautious…but still dying to read it. I bought the book and left it TBR for a couple of months. Am I ever glad I read this book! Yes, there are topics in the books that, if written by other authors, could have been triggering for me. But with Abby’s diligent approach, intentional sensitivity, and masterful writing, I wasn’t triggered at all. Not only did I absolutely LOVE Just for the Summer, I was able to reflect on my own experiences in a new way. I found Just for the Summer to be bibliotherapeutic at the highest level for me. Bibliotherapy is enjoying books alongside other approaches to self improvement (most often in educational and counseling settings) to grow and develop as a person. It happens naturally, to a degree, for most readers. As a children’s literature specialist and professor of education for over 30 years who’s studied bibliotherapy as an aspect of helping students, I can only give Jimenez the highest praise. Never have I read an adult novel in the romance genre that so eloquently took me through a beautiful love story and simultaneously created a nurturing way for me to gain insight on personal experiences. As always, narration by Zachary Webber and Christine Latin allowed me to be fully immersed in the story. I was immediately hooked and finished Just for the Summer within a day. Loved all the nods Jimenez embedded in the story to her previous works. Kudos, once again, for an amazing read!

I was expecting a slightly more lightheaded romance but this deals kind of heavily with trauma. Overall the pacing and the story were interesting and the romance aspects were very sweet and satisfying. Minor plots hole though.

Such a sweet, romantic, and funny story. I’ll be honest, after the first 20 minutes or so I considered giving up on this one because it seemed like it was taking a turn towards cheesy. I’m glad I didn’t! I thoroughly enjoyed this listen. The two narrators were also great. Their voices and inflection fit perfectly with the characters. Def listen to this book!
