Summary
Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?

Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo's clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list).

With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house 'spark joy' (and which don't), this international bestseller featuring Tokyo's newest lifestyle phenomenon will help you clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home-and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.

A lot is about how and why she became an organizer and little about how to organize. Also some things about it are not practical especially for people who work full time jobs and have very small but mobile children. I don't have a few hours to collect every piece of clothing and go through each thing piece by piece. Some concepts were helpful and I am going to try to apply them when I clean.

Motivated me to declutter! This book inspired me to look at my possessions in a different light. I consider myself a neat person and just want to be content with what I have, this book helped me reach the next step, appreciation and self awareness.

This book has changed my mind set. I have organized and gotten rid of things "I might use someday (but haven't used in years). I buy only what I need.

The author uses the word “tidy” excessively! The introduction is lengthy and delays the point of the book. The decluttering systems proposed may work, but the book is unnecessarily wordy. Truly this could have been a short pamphlet.

Really liked the book … Narrator’s voice was dull & annoying

I don’t like it. Very opinionated and judgmental tone from the author. Not inspiring but rather discouraging from a self-esteem perspective.

Just annoying! Listen to books gain knowledge over to be entertained. I couldn’t get passed the 3rd chapter if this book. I just felt irritated by this authors insistence as though being a compulsive tidier is a desirable thing. I’m sure the information is useful to some by I didn’t find value and The narrator lended no credibility to the theory.

Love the concept and the narration is good. But the book repeats itself way too much and there is more talk about her memories and how she became who she is than how to tidy and declutter.

The audio repeats a lot. Maybe in book form, there are sections and the organization is clear so you can see what's going on. But listening to the audio, all you hear is repetition. I love the overall concept of the book and we have been applying it to our house this summer. I even caught a reference on TV.

Such a great book! I loved listening to this type of book rather then read it. It has pushed me to de-clutter and organize everything in my house. It feels so good. I'm listening to her 2nd book right now and really like it as well.

This book changed my perspective in some ways, but my kids do not understand why I've suddenly started talking to inanimate objects and thanking them for their service. Overall, I have found some of the principles very helpful, but I think some of the things are a little crazy. The narrator in some places sounds like a robotic voice, but overall was good.

*This Review Contains Spoilers* This book is overrated. In short: 85% biography (of authors childhood and how she developed her OCD -like habits 10% comparing client stories/ amount of discard 5% useful information on how to emotionally detach from items

This book has done more than get me to declutter everywhere in my home, it has freed me from so much more! I have never had hoarder tendencies but always feared there would be a day that I may need something and not be able to afford to replace it, so I hung on just in case. I alsoI used to wake up anxious, worried about everyday stuff, and now I am relaxed, and so much happier! My family has noticed such a change in me. I no longer have to take medicine for anxiety! And I am convinced I no longer have a shopping disorder. Wow! I wake up refreshed, calm and with a smile on my face. This book is a blessing! You should read it and pass it on!

My lovely daughter in law introduced me to this book and I'm hooked! What convinced me most is to see the change in her and her house ????. I just finished decluttering my books and ended up bringing 14 boxes to Goodwill. So freeing! Will be doing more tidying up til my house is in order ????

Wow. Has changed my perspective on tidying. Although I have just finished this book , the urge to tidy and declutter is strong. I have already started to declutter my home using the methods laid out in this book And am loving the results thus far!! A must read for anyone who is "messy" , wants to declutter, or simply change the energy of their space!
